Read up on it, stock the fridge with plenty of beer, once you have done the first turbo, you will know the next time what not to do. Women and children should be kept at a safe distance or out of hearing range.
I took the truck for another drive and I would get a little black smoke on take off and exceleration. Turbo was good. After a while of sitting I drove again and rolled up to a stop sign and went to go and had very little response and a lot of white/grey smoke. I eased off the throttle and started to go and things were normal. Black smoke would continue for the drive if I got aggressive until the rpm's got up then it would go away. I have not seen the white/grey smoke before.....
The black smoke can be heavy, although I have seen other trucks put out more.
Also I noticed that on the driveway when I started up it spit some stuff on the ground. (looks like sooty stuff)
I have a known good EGR valve that I keep as a spare. It has helped numerous people out in troubleshooting.
You may still have a valve that is sticking a little.
I pulled the egr valve again and it doesn't appear to be sticking. (I am assuming that if I work the valve and it goes freely then it is not sticking.) Do you all think it is still a bad EGR valve?
As said before I have two times when I have had white/grey come rolling out along with a loss of power. This happens after I stop at a stop sign and step on it. I let off the gas and I go just fine with minimal black smoke. Black smoke only comes when I get on it.
P1335 is a code that can come from anything from turbo, ebp sensor or plugged tube, icp issues, high pressure oil issue, low side oil volume issue, FICM concerns (especially low voltage), failing injectors, low battery voltage or alternator issue, fuel pump, egr valve, damaged MAP sensor or hose, etc. To know for sure will require more troubleshooting. An egr valve stuck wide open (you WILL have a P1335 w/ this condition) will cause a miss, major loss of power, and lots of black and gray smoke, and stalling. You may also see EGR marbles that are holding the EGR valve open - this may be a result of a slight leak in an EGR cooler.
Mark would it help ( alittle ) to clean IAT2 senser and EBPand tube. I noticed on mine was very badly sooted, but at the end looks melted tryed to look at some Iat2 pics but it dont show the tip.
04badford - Cleaning the IAT2 and the EBP (sensor and tube) would not be a bad idea for sure.
craypc - it is hard to tell how bad the smoke situation is. A little smoke is not all that unusual. If your trucks performance is acceptable, it is probably OK to drive it. I would just watch the boost values.
edit - I just read your last few posts again. Doesn't sound like acceptable performance. The white / gray smoke doesn't really sound like the EGR valve. Sounds a little more like the turbo sticking occasionally.
