Looking at bed liner options for my 75 F100. I kind of like the looks of the bed rug but I don't think they make one for the 73-79 F-series. If I go spray-in is the Line-X the better liner?

Reason: spelling
Toss up between rhino liner and Line-x. I think Line-x gets a better rep, but I have seen both hold up well. As long as the installers prep well, both will hold up.
I have Line-x in my 09 F-150 and it's really good. I was fortunate when I bought the truck that it was already in there. I've used it to move, haul whatever, and even spilled brake fluid, gas, oil, etc... in it and you can't tell.
I got a quote for my 76 and it was around $500. Since I won't be hauling anything in it, I took my happy a$$ to wal-mart and spent $60 on the rustoleum roll in kit. I laid in 3 coats and it serves the purpose and looks pretty decent.
Remember you usually have to pay for the quality you get, there are some cheaper but not so good brands out there, so be aware.
Pay for the quality brand and is should last you for years to come. I am not putting a brand or company on here, but some with a good rep have been mentioned in numerous threads.
Line-x is great, I have used the rustoleum stuff before and I'm not even sure how it can be called bed liner. It's more like black paint with sand in it. In my 97 have a liner done by carefree coatings (it's a lot like line-x) it's fantastic. I will probably never own another truck without it and one day my 79 will get it (although it's pretty low on my to-do list).
I think that spray in or roll in bed liners offer more protection than a bed rug, although the extra cost they are more than worth it. There is a product out there called AL's Liner. It runs about $120. It's a DIY bed liner kit kinda like the rustoleum stuff, it's said to be better quality thow. Personally I haven used it myself but I think I am going to try it out. Has anyone had experience with it?
I've gone with Line-X on a couple of my rigs, and it's always held up really well. They've now added a secondary coating that you can purchase that keeps the liner black and shiny, as opposed to the chalky grey color that it can turn after a few years with the base liner. I've put both coatings into Buford, and it looks good. I also had Line-X shot into the cab on the floor and walls to keep the bottom of the cab from ever rusting again.
I can't speak to Rhino liner, but Line-X has been fine with me.
I found a real true drop in 73-79 bedliner at a local salvage yard for my 1979, I know the drop ins get a bad rap, but I have had em in a few trucks and never had any sort of problem with em.

I've used Al's in my own trucks and have sold some to quite a few guys that have used it inside their Bronco tubs. Al's sister company Scorpion just came out with a 2 gallon kit for 149. Pics compliments of Diesel Brad and his Bronco build. This was 2 gallons of material.
I had just been researching a lot of this myself, I am quite impressed with the Al's product. I think I might actually give it a try myself...preparation is obviously the key to a proper job. I had priced the Rhino and Line X a few weeks back and the prices were $540.00 & $600.00 out the door. I kind of expected something around that but don't really want to pay it. If I am going to be under $200.00 for Al's supplies, it is easier to swallow if I handle the labor.
Ranger 429 - that looks great! I take it that was sprayed in?
Yes he sprayed that on. With the 2 gallon Scorpion kit, spray gun and shipping it would be closer to 225 roughly. Al's can be rolled on but the results are much better sprayed. I've done it both ways and prefer spraying.
How does the als liner hold up in the sun over time? I know it says its 100 percent uv stable. But is it really? I am considering als liner as well but I want to spray my entire truck, not just the bed.
Also look into "Raptor Liner" if you're looking at Al's. A liner has been on the list for my crew for a long time & I've looked at write-ups over and over again in preparation. Now that I'm closer I'm deciding between the 2 above. Both are DIY stuff and have great reviews.
As for this:

I looked up threads that were a couple years old over on cumminsforum and asked guys who had sprayed both Al's liner & the Raptor Liner. Both said the color was holding up just fine. If I remember right the guy who had the stuff on the longest I talked to was at maybe 5 years???
Also, a little thought on the Line-X thing and the price. My thought would be ask the Line-X guys if they'll spray something you've prepped. Pretty sure they won't guarantee the stuff if you do the prep, but then again I'm not sure they do guarantee it anyway. The prep is the majority of the work on these things, so if you bring in a bed that is sanded or whatever & just needs a wipe down with acetone & a masking job the price to spray may drop drastically.
