My truck died while I was driving, had a bad gas smell when it happened. A week later it happened again, I turned it off 5 min later tried to turn it back on, it cranked and smelled like gas but would not start. I thought the fuel pump went bad. So new fuel pump, filter, and new fuel line (except the last piece the attaches to the tank) I couldn't reach that piece without dropping the tank. My fuel filter has barely any fuel in it while running now, so my question is, is that normal or not, before all this happened it used to always be full.
No, that's not normal.. But I don't think your fuel pump should have been questioned at first. If your smelling gas than it's getting gas and possibility no spark. You might want to have your ICM tested to see if it's good. And if you could add some more information about your truck and any other symptoms or troubleshooting you have done, that might help in getting some more accurate suggestions.. And double check all the clamps on those hoses you replaced.

I don't think its the ICM, I had one go bad before and it acted totally different than this. It has a universal clear plastic filter, I'm just wondering if everybody else's fills all the way up or not. Its running now, it just seems strange that the filter doesn't really have much gas in it.
I have a post "fuel pump bad?", even though I'm having different issues I'll just say that I have the inline clear filter between the pump and carb and it stays full. I had some air bubbles so I thought maybe I had a bad fuel pump which was causing them and a sputtering problem but it's fine. Swapped out the filter and no more bubbles and it stays filled/full...
When I changed my fuel pump the truck only had a quarter of a tank. I filled it up today and drove it for awhile, then looked at the filter and it was full of gas. So apparently it needed more gas to prime the pump.
