Suspecting I have a bunch of crap floating around in my gas tank and wanting to save my fuel system any horror, should I put a 2nd fuel filter just before the fuel pump?
Having the same fear, I installed one ahead of my fuel pump.
I would suggest the biggest one that will fit. I got a large
clear plastic one from the ever-shrinking selection at Wal-mart,
and spliced it in-line. I like the idea of clear plastic (as opposed to a metal canister-type) as I can actually see the condition of the filter.
You're on the right track, as filters are cheaper to maintain than are carburetors !
I put in a clearview inline filter before the fuel pump on my '79. It combined with the thread-in-carb filter has not given me any problems what so ever. The first filter is wise since it will help protect the fuel pump too.
Just use the biggest one you can find in order to cut down on the pump inlet restriction.
Thanks for using FTE!
