Hey I have a 1991 ford f150 xlt lariat 4x4 302 automatic
The transfer case is out or going out and I need to know if I can delete it and make it into a 2wd it's a manual transfercase
Just pick up a different T-case and be done with it. Brad posted an Ebay link on here recently, brand new BW1356 Tcase $350. http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-OEM-TRANSFER-CASE-4X4-FORD-BRONCO-92-93-94-95-96-WARNER-1356-NOS-/400422867364?_trksid=p2050601.m2372&_trkparms=aid%3D111000%26algo%3DREC.CURRENT%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D250%26meid%3D7460208416438856343%26pid%3D100085%26prg%3D1112%26rk%3D4%26sd%3D300899936155%26%26clkid%3D7460209555229224663&_qi=RTM1303755You'd be wise to call them about fitment, but seems like a good route to go if it is compatible. Or try the JY, find something lower in mileage.
Otherwise you need a 2x4 trans and a longer driveshaft.
EDIT: the shipping on the case is hefty, so its not as economical as I initially thought.
Sounds like he's short on cash at the moment since he asked about deleting it instead of fixing it, so I doubt he wants or is able to drop $350 on a brand new one. I've been there... he probably just wants to keep it going til he can fix it right at a later time.
OP, yes you can make it 2 wheel drive but it would take almost the same amount of time as it would to fix it. If you can't fix it right, and if the geartrain itself is in good shape... take the t-case out, split it open and you'll see the range gear inside the planetary. Tack weld that gear in high range, put back together without shift forks and chain. Should last a while anyway, depending on condition of your oil pump.
thanks alot thats going to save me some time its a good truck just that one bad thing.i was thinking it was the transmission for a while because of the shift problem and its electronic shift. hopefully its just the t case
