Shift/Cruise issue

Hey guys -

I need some help - my google skills are normally pretty good, but I havent had much luck in this case.

A few months ago, I started having problems shifting from park in my '05 EX - it would take pressing the brake pedal a couple of times. I did a little research and found that it could be the switch or the actual interlock module mounted on the column. It would always shift without any issue after a couple of pumps on the pedal, and I kind of let it go.

This week, I started having problems with cruise - it used to always disengage when I just tap the brake, but now I have to hit the brake pretty hard to get the cruise to disengage.

I'm starting to think that its the actual switch on the pedal itself. I found the part (I think its the brake light switch) and its only about $10-$15, but I cant find any info about how involved it is to replace.

Anyone have any direction on how to replace this, or if you think it might be something else?

I've seen lots of information about some fuse that blows causes cruise issues, and there's even a recall for it on some vehicles, but I dont believe that this is my issue- with the shifting and cruise issues together, I really think its the switch, I just cant find any info about replacing it.

Thanks for any help!!!

Your problem is the brake light switch.

To change it remove the electrical connector. Then remove the clip that holds the switch to the pedal. Reverse this to install the new switch.

Thanks for the info - the switch was the issue, and it was fairly easy to replace once I got the electrical connector off...that was the hardest part!

My google skills led me here to your solved problem, but I was wondering if you had any insight or links to the switch? I'm having the exact same problem and need to embark on the solution asap... at first it was only every once in a while, but now it's an event getting it out of park.

Then I noticed two things with cruise:

1. The cruise didn't turn off a few times while tapping the break and I approached ramming speed/distance a couple of times, freaking me out a bit.

2. When it DOES turn off with the foot tap, it's violent. It's like I'm slamming the brakes for a nano second.

So, with the switch, you said getting the electrical connector off was the hardest part... is there any insight you can give to help with that process or are you just saying that the whole job was easy? Is the switch a dealer only part or can you get it elsewhere? Thanks!!

Like (almost) everything else in life, if you look for it on youtube, there's more than likely a solution for you.
