First - promise I combed the threads (& then some). Got a deal on a nice Pioneer double-DIN head unit w/ bluetooth. Looked like an easy install. The Metra wiring harness I bought was apparently the wrong one. Didn't have time to get another, so I cut the old one and spliced the wires per a wiring diagram I got from 12volt. Stereo worked great, but get this ... when I turned the key to "on" (but without turning it far enough to trigger the starter) and then powered on the radio, THE BLOODY ENGINE STARTED ! Was going to address that today but decided to take the truck on a grocery run. My son started it up (it takes forever and a day to warm up - even in this sweltering weather), it was running fine, then it cut out completely and now won't start
Is all that you did for just the radio at the dash or did you have to tap into anything else?
Here's my info:
12 volts constant - Light Green/Violet
Accessory - Black/Pink or Pink
Ground - Black or Black/Light Green
Dimmer - Light Blue/Black or Light Blue/Red
Speed Sense - Gray/Black (sometimes in the plug)
LF Speaker - Orange/light green (+) / Light Blue/White (-)
RF Speaker - White/Light Green (+) / Dark Green/Orange (-)
LR Speaker - Tan/Yellow (+) / Gray/Light Blue (-)
RR Speaker - Brown/Pink (+) / Orange/Red (-)
Only tapped into the radio wires -- and only the large rectangular one (not the square one that goes (I believe) to the rear controls, which I don't care about. BTW, your wiring info is better than what I got on the12Volt.com (specifically, ground might be either black OR black and light green; accessory may be black pink OR pink). There is a black wire that I assumed was the ground wire when I first spliced in the harness that leads to (and came with) the head unit; but when I hooked it up, there was no juice. A little hunting with a voltage tester confirmed that the black/green was ground. HOWEVER, there appear to be TWO (2) black green wires. I was pretty impressed with myself for figuring out that much & getting the unit to work properly (which it did just as soon as I found the ground and powered it up). Then again, I've probably installed 50+ in dash car radios & A/V systems since I was a pup. Never in my life had one start the dang engine all on its own (... and then somehow cause or contribute to yet another aggravating head-scratchier).
