The pyro gauge must be very well grounded. Crazy needle is a certain symptom of a bad ground. When mine (autometer) shared ground with my dash accessories like stereo i had bad readings. Made a dedicated ground directly to battery terminal and fixed it. Engine or frame or spare fuse slot would work also assuming good connections back to battery. Unfortunately mine mostly works now but a few times each drive the needle goes out of whack then eventually returns to normal. Reading other posts it sounds like i may need a replacement probe or gauge. The autometers seem to have a rep for being bad out of the box.
