I have some questions about this vehicle. I have a 2004 Excursion that is bone stock with 148,000 miles and has a 6.0L DIT. Currently it runs, but not good. It fires right up but idles as if it is going to die but then it holds the idle for a bit and then runs like crap again. Also, when it idles, it smokes like there is no tomorrow and blows out a huge puff of black smoke on deceleration. Driving down the road, it chugs really bad at 55-60 mph. Came home and scanned it. Came up with P0283,...268, ...265, ...274. Additionally, there seems to be a huge power deficiency when taking off; that is, off the line, its slow and lacks power, but when that turbo finally winds up, that vehicle takes off and bangs through the gears.
The actual owner of this vehicle took it to the Ford stealer and they told him the same thing without really looking at it. So, I have read so much about these codes and it seems the general consensus is the FICM is bad. I also know that there was a Ford recall related to the FICM. In either 2007 or 2009, Ford did a recall where the PCM, FICM, TCM, and something else was reprogrammed. In 2011, the guy had the FICM replaced, as evidenced by the July/15/2011 sticker on the unit.
I was asked to replace the injectors, glow plugs, and the GP harness under the valve covers. I find it hard to believe that there are 4 bad injectors in this truck, especially when I crawl around under the hood and clearly see that the owner has been regularly maintaining his vehicle. Moreover, I couldn't take his money in good conscious believing that the injectors are not the issue, at least directly. I really feel the FICM is defective. I would appreciate any feedback regarding this.
Cylinders #2, #3, #5 and #8 are the very cylinders that are connected to the middle of the three plugs on the FICM. That and the fact you are getting cylinder circuit high codes tells me you most likely have an issue with that plug not being secured properly, thus making a poor/no connection and in turn causing those four cylinders not to fire.
Thank you guys. I appreciate that a lot. That actually confirms my own thoughts. The fact is, the middle connector was not tightly secured. As I was lifting off the FICM and disconnected the first plug, the middle came right off after that without me even touching it.
Thumbs x2 reps needed for theses guys, may I add my 2c, to press the plug back in dio grease with a 1x across intake and something solid untill it snaps in you will hear lil click if needed 2 pcs of 1x 1 flat and one to press up to click in easyer for the skin los

Well, I took a closer look at the connectors and much to my dismay, the ford stealer broke off the locking clips when they replaced the computer. I went ahead and replaced the FICM motherboard. Now the above problem is intermittent. Sometimes it throws a code, some times it doesn't. I am going to try to change the connector; I have to see if I can get new connectors from Napa because I tried getting them from ford, and they told me I had to buy a whole new engine compartment harness.
Does anyone have some thoughts for me. I just do not believe this engine has 4 bad injectors. Like I said, by changing the motherboard on the FICM, the vehicle actually runs a bit better, but the problem still exists intermittently.

they are put in pretty tight, but dont take a chance on the plugs vibrating out, ? pins are ok we assume? so zip tie or use Bennys method eather one would be less $ In the short fix no need to change for big Money.
