I have some questions about this vehicle. I have a 2004 Excursion that is bone stock with 148,000 miles and has a 6.0L DIT. Currently it runs, but not good. It fires right up but idles as if it is going to die but then it holds the idle for a bit and then runs like crap again. Also, when it idles, it smokes like there is no tomorrow and blows out a huge puff of black smoke on deceleration. Driving down the road, it chugs really bad at 55-60 mph. Came home and scanned it. Came up with P0283,...268, ...265, ...274. Additionally, there seems to be a huge power deficiency when taking off; that is, off the line, its slow and lacks power, but when that turbo finally winds up, that vehicle takes off and bangs through the gears.
The actual owner of this vehicle took it to the Ford stealer and they told him the same thing without really looking at it. So, I have read so much about these codes and it seems the general consensus is the FICM is bad. I also know that there was a Ford recall related to the FICM. In either 2007 or 2009, Ford did a recall where the PCM, FICM, TCM, and something else was reprogrammed. In 2011, the guy had the FICM replaced, as evidenced by the July/15/2011 sticker on the unit.
I was asked to replace the injectors, glow plugs, and the GP harness under the valve covers. I find it hard to believe that there are 4 bad injectors in this truck, especially when I crawl around under the hood and clearly see that the owner has been regularly maintaining his vehicle. Moreover, I couldn't take his money in good conscious believing that the injectors are not the issue, at least directly. I really feel the FICM is defective. I would appreciate any feedback regarding this.
THank you in advance.

Reason: Incomplete
ok. I saw ford excursion forum and thought I was where I needed to be.
It's not that this is the wrong place, but there is a better one. There are lots of 6.0L owners that frequent this forum, but nearly as many as there are in the 6.0L forum.
get a scan gauge or torque app for the smart phone. Then you can check the actual sensor values of the ficm and other important ones, on the 6.0 forum!

Well, I just saw this thread and was gonna move it over to the 6.0L forum but I see Tom already suggested you post over there. In checking, I see the guys have already given you good idea's on the problem, so I'll just add the link to that thread over there, to this thread here, in case of future searches.
