On my 76 f-250 hiboy, the brakes seem to be sticking(fronts). I have replaced the clipers and the problems persist. Here are some symptoms. I will be driving along and all the sudden my front end starts shaking, The brake pedal also gets VERY stiff. The shaking is a result of warpped rotors and the calipers sticking, But if I shut my truck off for about 5 minutes and then try to drive, the brake pedal is back to soft and there is no more shaking...Profanity Removed?!! I have looked inside my boosters vacume line for any sings of brake fluid but found nothing. I am sure it is the booster or master cyl. but I just wanna know if anyone has seen symptoms like this before.
Have you replaced your master cylinder or booster?
Has one of your brake hoses collapsed internally acting as a check valve? I doubt this is your problem due to your stiff brake pedal, -but it is something to think about.
With a hard pedal it sounds more like a mismatch or bad adjustment between the booster and master cylinder. The brakes are being applied as you drive without your foot on them. Is your brake pedal bouncing around and tapping the brakes contiually?
Just some thoughts, I have to go out in the morning and figure out why my daughters brakes are squealing, and my left front caliper is locking up on a van. Probably a squeaker tab bent down by a rock or something on my daughters vehicle, and a stuck piston on mine.
My next plan is to replace both the master cyl and the brake booster.
The pedal doesnt just flop tho...I stays right where it is it just gets stiffer and stiffer...so im building pressure in my brake system somehow...anyone know how?
