thanks

while I have been a member for a while, I very seldom post.
it is amazing how much you can learn while keeping your mouth shut.

I wanted to say Thank You to all who have taken the time to help others here. it really says a lot about our values and priority's.

now that that is out of the way,
White Smoke,
I have read that a cool engine, dirty fuel filter etc. can cause this.
my question is how and why ?
i really would like to understand how a lack of fuel (dirty filter) can cause this.

thanks in advance,

I understand the cold engine, but I'm having a rough time thinking my way through a dirty fuel filter. Low oil pressure, yes. Low fuel pressure on a non-HEUI system, yes. 7.3L? I can't get there... but I can bump the question.

ive never heard of it with just a dirty filter... to much fuel would cause it or if your fluids are mixing together like maybe a cracked injector cup..

i found this on another forum:Help, my 7.3 blowing a lot of white smoke - Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum

and also this:1999 ford F350 7.3 white smoke? - PowerStrokeNation : Ford Powerstroke Diesel Forum

This forum does have some(a lot) of very knowledgeable guys who are always willing to help out.

As for the white smoke... I too, have never heard of it coming from a dirty fuel filter. Most of the time it is from a problem in the GP system or worn out injectors. It could also be coolant as well, but you will be able to tell from the smell of it.

thanks for the replies,
i will step back to the side-line now.

edit to add,
smoking is listed, along with other symptoms (i.e. poor fuel mileage and loss of power), in the supplement to the owners manual.
other causes are also listed, kind of a catch-all I guess.
Thanks Again
