Question Rough Shifting

I have a '97 Club Wagon (E150). It has 120,000 miles. I had to replace the engine last year. Now the trans is rough shifting particularly between 1st and 2nd. It started when the van was warm in stop and go traffic. I had the fluid flushed hoping this would help. It didn't. Any suggestions? I also noticed yesterday that the back-up lights have quit working. Any possible connection to the shifting problem?

Thumbs up Rough Shifting

As a follow-up to the previous posting I have this to report. I looked at the connection on the neutral safety switch since this would most likely control the back-up lights. The connector was not on straight. I removed the connector and reconnected it a couple of times to make sure it was securely on the switch. I then checked the back-up lights and they were functioning. When I took the van out for a drive the hard shifting had also stopped. I surmised that since the connector was not properly engaged the transmission since it was not getting a signal of shifter location. I may be wrong however everything is working smooth now. Based on the location I believe the connector was disturbed when the pan was removed to replace the filter.
