Rough up shift

I have a 88' F250 with an automatic and it shift really rough into 2nd and 3rd gear. I have to let off the throttle in order for it to even shift. The truck had been sitting for a whilte because I had swopped engines. Any idea where to start?

Change your trans fluid and filter. It may be so old and gummed up that it's preventing the trans from shifting correctly. Make sure you flush out the torque converter as well.
