Hey guys, what length of column do I need for a '55 with a Volare front end? They offer several lengths starting at 30"-34",thanks in advance. L8R ZFLASH
I'd just give them a call, they are very good to deal with and will give you all the help they can. I've used they stuff before and was very satisfied.
A lot depends on what the dish of the steering wheel you will be using and if an adapter is needed. I'm using a 30" in my 56 with Toyota box, Grant 15" banjo wheel, Ididit adapter.
I too have a 30", but it's Flaming River. As AX mentioned the wheel I intend on using will add about 3/4" of length over the current wheel. Biting the costs off in pieces so I'll be a touch short for a bit. Be sure to check on the wheel dish of whatever you will be using.
It also depends on the seat and how tall and or big you are. I installed my seat before I actually ordered my Ididit column and then took it back out to work on the floor etc. My truck is the wrong year to help anyway, but it is a decision that you need to make while sitting in the truck. I got the steering wheel I wanted first and sat in my seat holding the wheel where I wanted it while a friend measured between the floor and the bottom of the wheel. I then added how much needed to go through the floor with the bottom mount I had and got the length I wanted.
Thanks everyone for your help,I was looking at one on ebay someone was selling cheap. I missed out,but I've been looking into doing this too. L8R ZFLASH
