I have a 2001 F-150 SuperCrew with a 5.4L and 99,000 miles. On the way back from a trip the truck started to run real rough. Took it to a dealer and they said I had a bad (#1) coil pack. Replaced it and it ran great, like it did when it was brand new. Drove about 180 miles and it started to miss again, but not nearly as bad. Took it to another dealer. This time #4 coil was intermittent and they replaced it along with all the spark plugs. It ran great for a while and once again I've noticed a intermittent miss on the truck while driving at highway seeds. I'm thinking I should replace the 6 other coils. Anyone experienced all coils going bad so close to one another? Could it be something else?

Did the check engine lights come on? Just wondering because when I idle, it feels like mine is possibly missing. The truck kind of shutters every few seconds. No warning lights have come on and it seems to run smooth when I accelerate and when I am at normal cruzing speed. Can't figure out if it is just the nature of the engine or if one of the coils/plugs have gone out.
I have a 1999 F150 5.4 S/C. Any info would be appreciated.

The engine light came on the first time I had a problem. The miss was real bad the first time. However you couldn't feel it at idle, I only noticed when I was driving. Now, there is not engine light and I still only feel the very slight miss while I'm driving under very light acceleration.

Yeah, not sure what I want to do. I just bought the truck a few weeks ago. Still trying to get use to the sounds. I stepped up from a 1990 Toyota ext cab 4x4 to the 150. Love the 150 but I bought it used and still a little nervous about buying a used vehicle. I really don't like dealer shops, don't really trust them. I also have a little noise when I accelerate. Not sure if it is the valves, rings, or who knows what. Counds like a low chain rattling. Could just be a normal Triton V8 noise. Guess I might have to swing by the dealer and have them listen when I accelerate and sit in the truck at idle.
Any thoughts?

I have a 4.2 that out of nowhere after it was parked for a couple hours felt like it was running on 4 cylinders. Went and bought a set of wires and plugs.
Thought it was old wires because it was raining when it did this missing thing also check engine came on.Put on parts and problem seemed to go away just a miss sometimes under hard accel or load. and has been getting worse week by week and my timing light wasn't working right when it was hooked up to it.sort of thought it might be a coil pack? How much do you think one of these packs cost?

My 2000 F150 89,000 plus truck has been missing and my check engine light come on too.

I had Autozone do a test and they stated, that my EGR value needed to be cleaned with some B12 or something.

Does anybody know were it is located under the hood?

Is there a website with maybe a engine map or something to help people with little knowledge of what exactly is where under the hood?

Brad

I have a 2001 F150 5.4 Liter with an annoying intermittent miss.
I was told that I could check my coil packs with an OHM meter.
Has anyone had success doing this? I've also read that this could be caused by water leaking on to the coil packs (especially #4), however other than the connection pins the coil packs appear completely sealed.

Thumbs up Engine Miss

Make sure the plug boots are not torn, if they are they start to jump to the closest ground.

On my 4.2 it's right in front it round and sliver has a vacuum line on it and the air exshaust tube on the right hand side runs into it. near the bottom it's kind of rusty from the heat .It recuirculates unburned gases back thru the motor at the higher rpm. If it leaks manifold vacuum will drop causing poor off idle performance.and other stuff too Hey isn't b12 a vitamin that you get in wheaties
