83 F100 column shift question
83 F100 column shift question
My 3 on the tree is poor, but still shifts. I think it's in good shape except for the collar and maybe parts of the column. The collar can slide up and down the column an inch or so, and I thought they just rotated, the shift handle did the movement. I looked at it and it seems the column cover from the dash to the collar is homemade or cheap aftermarket. It has a split in it that looks like it was made that way.
Does anyone have one of these for comparison?
I also have a Hurst floor shifter but want to save the column shifter if I can. The previous owner didn't drive the pin through the lower hole in the collar, so it has damaged the top hole already. I tried to coax the pin through but it doesn't want to budge. Does it need a press to get it through?

We get posts now and again on the column shifts. Seems there are not many out there, and parts are very hard to get. I haven't seen many good responses on column shift questions and I don't know much about them.
As far as the column cover goes I can tell u mine is made just like that. Excepting stays together better but I'd say mine is factory since I'm only the second owner and my extremely particular father was the first owner.
