P0299

Hey Everyone,

I've had a cel on for the P0299 for awhile now and have not noticed any change in performance, but my state just started requiring emissions testing and it failed, because of the cel being on, so now I have to fix it. I've been reading on the forums here about it and want to see what steps I can take next. So far, here are some of the things I've read:
-Turbo had to be replaced to fix the issue (seemed to be a really common answer, even for some who didnt notice degraded performance)
-EBP sensor needed cleaning or replacing
-Turbo needed cleaning
-EGR Valve needed cleaning
-Leak in cac boot

I did set up my scangauge II to read vgt, ebp and map. I'm realling hoping to narrow down the issue instead of doing everything on the list above if I can help it.

I started the truck from a cold engine, and here are the readings
At Idle, vgt=71, map=12.1, ebp=19.8
At approx 2000rpm vgt=54, ebp=31.2, map=16.1

I'm not sure if i needed to provide these with a warmed engine or not.

Also, with the engine warm, if I stomp on the pedal the truck still picks up very quickly, and reading the factory dash boost gauge i get around 22-24psi, so I"m thinking a leaking cac boot is not the issue. I normally clean my egr valve when I replace my fuel filters, and I'm about due for that now so I'll be doing that once the filters come in. I've never touched the ebp or cleaned the turbo. Any ideas on what I should try first?

Thanks!

Compare your MAP, BARO, and EBP w/ KOEO. Post results.

A MAP of 12.1 seem quite low unless you live at high altitudes (over 5000 ft such as Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, or Santa Fe, etc)

BAD EBP SENSOR or wiring to EBP Sensor as long as your Gauge you using is Correct

Turbo problems are common to be a Bad sensor more than Turbo Itself

you can try to clean the EBP sensor

LOL - nice to have an easy one every once in awhile!!
As always Benny, you are quick to help (reps to come when I can again)!

Just some trivia ............

Even Josh doesn't live in a city that makes the top 100 for highest elevation on the US.

The 100 spot is Columbine, Co at 5560 ft.

Out of the top 100, almost half of the highest cities are in Colorado (42 to be exact).
New Mexico is the next at 18

............ Sometimes a person just gets bored and gets distracted with internet searches - lol

You lose about .5 PSI per 1000 feet increase of elevation. We are at 4900 feet where I live.

Hi Everyone,

Thanks so much for your help! Today after work i will remove the EBP and clean it, and the tube as well. From what i understand, it can be cleaned with carb cleaner right? Is there anything I need to be careful for, (like on the egr valve where you need to keep the carb cleaner out of the holes?) Also, for cleaning the EBP Tube, does that tube need to be removed and cleaned all the way through, or just the top where the EBP screws in? If this doesnt work I'll replace the EBP. Either way I'll post the results!!

Joe

The tube needs to be open and clear so that you can get a true reading. You can poke a long, heavy weedeater string down the tube to clear it.

IMO, you need a new sensor, not cleaning.
