The danm belt on my truck wont stop making noise. The belt is pretty new less than 3 months old. At first i thought it was a pulley making the noise. so i checked the pulleys and the alternator one seemed kind of squeaky when i spun it so i put an different (not new) alternator on. No change. So then i figured it had to be the tensioner pulley right? WRONG! Just put a new one on and it still makes noise. I am stumped.
Could it be that the Automatic belt tensioner is worn out?
You may have gotten coolant on the belt and pullies. Makes for one loud cricket!! I washed off my pullies and belt with some dawn dish soap with engine running and that did help till I replaced the coolant soaked belt.
how did u clean the pulleys with the engine running?
I use dish soap(dawn) and mix up like a table spoon to 1/2 quart water. I use a old squirt bottle and with engine at idle squirt the point where the belt comes in contact with the pulley. Watch out for the fan and ect and splash back from the soapy mix. Do that to each pulley/belt contact points. Once every thing is soaked, lightly rev the engine a few times and repeat till the bottle is empty.
After empting the bottle of cleaner, rinse off the belt/pulleys with a garden hose to finish cleaning it. I had to do this probly 3 times before I got rid of the chirp from antifreeze spilled on a brand new belt.
