Anyway, all that is just details. Nice find! I too like the classic looks.
I agree on the 4.10s lol I'm not a fan.
What do you mean by cowl induction? I thought cowl induction meant it had a bump in the hood?

That Hypermax kit that uses the OE filter is slick as hell.

Those mirrors are the factory Ford "tri-pod" towing mirrors.

Here's the cowl induction kit straight from hypermax, cowl induction is just pulling air from the cowl area, depending on vehicle design you don't need a bumped hood

Finally was up do doing some work on the new truck. It runs! Sorta, smokes some like promised, missing pretty heavily. Only 1 injector cap isn't leaking, the other 7 are puking out puddles.

Cracked the injectors while it was running, 1 & 3 made no difference. Hopefully just bad injectors. Too bad that HF compression tester didn't work out.

It's pushing some oil out the output side of the turbo, I assume this means turbo rebuild too? Or at least new seals? On the subject does anyone make parts for the Hypermax? I'm finding nothing with internet searches and Hypermax is only showing the whole kit on their site, not individual parts.

Do Hypermax turbos use seals? I know Garrett and BW turbos I sell for VWs at work do not.

Compression test shows no compression in 1 & 3. The rest are between 390-400. Time for the heads to come off. I'm okay with it, I bought the truck knowing there were engine problems so I expected the worse and since it does rotate and run it should be repairable. Hopefully just some dead valves.

On to the glow plugs, as mentioned earlier there was only one working GP.

Upon removing them I found:

1 AC
2 Champions
5 Autolites

The AC was the one working one! The Autolites looked okay physically. The Chumpions, well, one had a swelled tip and the other:

Hell, it isn't missing the tip, it's missing most of the GP! It was the last one I pulled of course. And it didn't just happen, the missing piece isn't in the hole, must have gone through. Good thing is this isn't from one of the dead cylinders, it's out of #8 which has 400lb compression so hopefully no carnage in there. I guess it's a good thing the heads are coming off anyway.

I've always expected to pay more for the parts on my IDIs than on the gassers, but $100 for a head set? Really? And it doesn't include the valley pan/intake gasket which is almost as much, $62. LOL, I still love these trucks anyway.

Nice lookin truck. I love those mirrors, my dads 78 had them on it. As far as the turbo leaking, by outlet, are you referring to the compressor outlet? Could just be oil from the CDR, but could not be, mine sure makes a mess.

No compression between 1 and 3 is telling me headgasket. Is it studded?

No studs. No CDR when I first ran it. When I first started it, just for a minute, it was just like pictured above, none of the intake parts on the turbo. A bit of oil made its way up out of the turbo where it's normally plumbed to the intake manifold. No spray or massive amounts of puddling, but enough for a small stream line working its way up.

My thought was it could have been oil in the comp housing from the CDR. When i pulled the comp housing off my turbo and sat it on the bench it made a pretty good puddle.

You have a point there, it could be oil puddled in the turbo up from when the CDR was hooked up. From the looks of the oily mess on the L/S of the engine the CDR wasn't maintained. I'll have to check that out after the engine's fixed.

Got some "of course" here and a question. I went to pull the R/S head, of course the last rear bottom bolt is stuck. Yeah, the one under the AC box. Broke a couple of 1/2 drive sockets on it. Took 'em to Sears, exchanged them, tried again, but by this time thanks to the broken sockets the bolt head is too round to get a bite on it. Can't get anything in there to cut it off because of the A/C box. Pulled the inner fender off, that gives me good access to it and I think I can cut it off now.

However, while I was under the truck I looked up at the bolts that hold the turbo pedestal to the back of the head. Holy crud Batman, how do I even get to those? I pulled one off an ATS (IIRC) once and it was tight, but I could still get my fingers and a wrench back there. But this one has the downpipe running right in front of the bolts. The bracket that anchors the downpipe is attached at these same bolts!!! How did they do that?

So I'm trying to tackle this before I go back to cutting the head bolt off, I figure I'll pull the exhaust to turbo pipes and see if that gains me any working room. (Doesn't look like it, but I'm desperate) I removed the nuts and exhaust flange from the manifold, removed the bolt that holds the top of the pipe up in the turbo (okay, broke that bolt, this turbo has been in here forever.) and the pipe drops down some, but stops. What holds it in the turbo? I pulled, twisted, and banged lightly on it, but it won't do more than move up and down a fair amount, but it stops before the pipe comes out of the turbo. There's no interference with the pipe itself, it's ready to come down, something is holding it into the turbo.

Taking a break from it today, figured I see what you all thought so any input is appreciated. Excuse me if my terminology is wrong, I'm fairly turbo illiterate.
