New IDI Here

Bought this last Sunday, been pretty sick so haven't been up to posting this until now.
It's a 1986 F250 Ex-Cab 2WD C6 4.10 limited slip. (Tilt wheel too, not something I'm used to seeing in these earlier rigs.) Has some upgrades, has some engine problems too.
I was originally hoping for an '87, but everything else fit the criteria I was looking for and these early body styles have grown on me over the years, kind of a classic look to have 'real' headlights. That plus the overall condition made me do it.

I had to go over 400 miles to get it, while sick.... wasn't the best trip, but nothing went wrong anyways.

Bringing her home:

I do have the missing running board, it popped off getting the truck on the trailer.

Score! That is in good shape!

Turbo, cowl induction, good mirrors, straight body, A/C... too bad it's a C-6 4.10. Why were you looking for that? Farm truck? Where I live the speed limit is 70 to get anywhere for 15 minutes so even my ZF-5 with 4.10's is killing me...

Anyway, all that is just details. Nice find! I too like the classic looks.

Thanks! I've been the E4OD route, won't do that again. My first IDI was exactly set up this way (my '84) and for the 8 or 9 years I ran it, it was the most reliable truck I have ever owned to date. Wish I never got rid of it so I was hoping to get the same thing again. Only thing I'm not sure of is the gear ratio in my original truck, never looked. If the 4.10s are a problem I might get a 3.55 rear, but if I like the way this one tows I might leave it alone for that reason.

Oh my god! My favorite color combo

Nice clean truck you got there!

My van is C6 with 4.10's and if you keep it under 55, they'll still get great mpg! Even at 60 ain't bad, but it starts getting loud.....

If you have that thing just for hauling, i'd leave the 4.10's in there. My 4.10's are a lil useless to me however cause I rarely tow anything with it. Just a Daily driver.

Nice truck! Always been fond of 7th Generation body style also. 4.10's are sure low with today's speed limits, but with a 2wd a rear axle swap is so cheap and relatively easy... Upgrade to long yoke sterling while you're at it

Here's an oddity, the turbo is a Hypermax conventional, (non-pulse), and the PO was running an open K&N filter on the intake. I guess the air traveled from the cowl induction to the open filter by osmosis.

Hypermax doesn't even show an airbox with the kit:

Hypermax - Product Display

So I dunno, is there one that I can use to do away with the K&N and be able to use the cowl induction?

The truck belonged to the dad of the guy I got it from. His dad had said the truck started smoking and lost power. He started to 'diagnosis' it (by taking the turbo intake system apart so he could pull the d/s valve cover....who knows...), then had a stroke. So I bought this with engine condition unknown basically.
Oil and coolant look good, engine turns over. Wouldn't start. Checked the GPs and only 1 was good. Figure I'll do a compression test when I pull the GP to replace and go from there.

There is a fair amount of oil on the intake, no puddles, but it is pretty wet. Don't know if that's from the CDR, or the K&N filter or what.

Turbo seems pretty tight, spins smoothly, no forward to rear play, a little left to right.

Truck has a 3 1/2 in exhaust system, used to have gauges, (pyro, trans temp, etc.) but they took them out. Cut off the sensors and left them in, lol. Has front and rear sway bars. Aftermarket wheels, but they've seen better days.

The hypermax system uses the stock air filter

Very good looking truck.

Hate to hijack but what are those mirrors style called? I have a set on my truck but need to find a replacement pair

Thanks Tom, I had no idea you could move that monstrosity and have it still fit! So I'll be able to ditch the K&N and maybe hook up that cowl induction. (If I can get the intake hose to fit, looks pretty tight in that picture)

GB, no idea what that mirror style is called. It's obviously some kind of camper/trailer mirror, but I don't know the name.

That's what I figure, easy to fix if I don't like the 4.10s. And yes, I haven't forgotten what you said before about the newer sturdier style axle. Thanks!

I hooked mine to the stock intake with a piece of dryer duct. Don't see why it wouldn't work with the cowl induction.

Maybe it's just the picture, but it looks like the A/C line is dead in front of the air intake.

You just rotate the line up so it clears the intake, there is room, not much but its there.
