hello i usually hang out in the 61-66 truck forum but have a question in regards to my 69 galaxie. i figured since i'm probably looking to a ford truck for donor parts i would see if someone here could help me out. i've got what i'm pretty sure is a 9 3/8" rear diff in my 69 galaxie. from what i've read they're a good enough unit but don't interchange with anything so i need some help figureing out what to do.
what i got.
1969 galaxie with 9 3/8" 31 spline 2:80:1 open differentual.
what i want.
31 spline locking rear pbly 9" with 3:00 ratio. i'm willing to buy a detroit truetrac and pop it in or maybe a salvage yard purchased locking unit out of a truck or something would work better? would like to use my stock 31 spline axles.
i also have a stock 28 spline 9" locking differentual (3:50:1 ratio) in the car for now but i'm going to push 500hp after rebuild so need the 31 spline axles.
can i do anything with the original 9 3/8" oddball diff or if not what do i need to look for in order to get to a 31 spline 3:00 locking rear unit. i'm thinking finding something in the salvage yard would be the cheapest easiest way to go but don't know what will fit my stock 1969 rear housing and 31 spline axles etc. i'm not mechanical so it's best if whatever i buy just "pops" in.
