Hope this finds everyone well and as always when I have a problem (which hasn't been often) with my 99 F350 I turn to this board and everyone here has been awesome. Here is my problem.
I drove to MD yesterday to pick up race car and towed car back, truck and tranny ran great. Tranny temp never got above 130 degrees thanks to additional tranny cooler and shift kit installed a year and half ago.
I unload car and do my usual pull truck and trailer into side yard and back it into my yard. I am on grass as I am doing this and I put it in reverse and I start backing up and then it feels like the tires are spinning on the grass (my truck is 2 wheel drive).
My buddy guiding me in says tires arent spinning, so I go forward to try and backing up again and still no luck. Then all of a sudden it doesn't matter what gear I put the truck in the truck won't move either forward or backwards.
So now my truck is stuck on half my side yard with trailer in driveway which sucks obviously......lol.
I got a buddy coming today with flatbed to take it to his shop.
My buddy crawled under there yesterday and when the truck is put in gear you can see the linkage move so the linkage didn't fall apart.
Any ideas??? Front pump in tranny? Or something let go in the trans somewhere?
As always I thank everyone for their input as this board has always been great.
Thank you.
PS Truck has 224K on it I bought it with 204K on it and have zero service records but when we dropped trans a year and half ago everything was real clean in there, like it had been done at one point but I have no way to verify that.
Thanks guys..........is it "normal" for them to go just like that (snapping finger)......lol.
Truck ran great and then just "poof".
Thanks again for the input, will know more as it gets to my buddys shop, praying it aint that bad as I am just getting race car ready to hit track after a 4 year hiatus and need truck to tow it.......lol.
When mine went last summer, it was like I popped it in neutral. It turned out the filter was clogged full of debris. Drained the fluid, put a new filter in it and it ran just like it always had. It was on borrowed time though, so I had it rebuilt anyway. It may have lasted 6 days, or 6 months, but it wasn't going to last too much longer.
If there was enough junk to clog the filter I don't think it would last another six days, let alone six months.
Yeah, thats what I figured, thats why I went ahead and had it rebuilt. The thing was, I had just towed the camper the weekend before, no issues at all. Never got hot, etc. then on my way to work Monday, it was as if I had popped the thing in neutral. I played with the transfer case a little just to make sure it wasn't that and then it drove again for a little while and then stopped. When the guy showed up to put it on the rollback he drove it right on. Apparently it would clog and then break suction and then run for a little while, and then clog again.
Hi Everyone!
I have strange problem with my 2001 E-350 7.3 with 230 000 on it . It started like this: I stop at stop sign and when I let off the brake it didn't go until I pushed gas pedal little more. It engaded rapidly and started moving but I felt some slipping. I stopped after 200 feet and checked the reverse. There was no reverse, but I felt tranny was egaging in the gears. I was only half a mile from home, so I drove back. there was some slipping. As got home there was no reverse still. After couple ours I starded it again, and drove it quater mile. It felt better, I tried reverse and... It was there. I drove it couple miles, and there were all gears, reverse, but sometimes I could hear some unusual sound from transmission. Next day I drove it, It was perfect at first, but then, every time I stopped It didnt go unless I pushed gas pedal just a little more. I wonder if it could be the loose feed bolts I red on this forum? The transmission fluid and filter was change 20 000 ago, I also have auxiliary transmission filter (screw on filter from dieselsite) on cooling line. I doubt it is bad torque converter, because when I push harder id goes without hesitation. Thanks for any ideas.
Thanks Mark!
I already stopped driving when I got into this forum and find out that it may be an easy fix. I will do it by myself. Will post after I am done if it was it.
It is possible it is loose feed bolts. Driving it while slipping will guarantee that you will need a rebuild.
I drop the pan and find it full of metal shavings and bigger metal pieces, I didnt look any further. The
I want either rebuild this one or buy a used one. My van is 2001. Would transmission from any van diesel 99,5 to 03 fit my van or there are differences beetween them?
Yes, any of those would work. Do not buy a 2001 transmission, though. There is a special problem with that model year and you don't want another one of those.
