Cool thanks bud.
Got everything hooked up. started to fill her with coolant.
And what do ya know. water pumps leaking like a stuck pig.
Great. off comes everything, bout fed up with it for right now. so. maybe next weekend. have to order a new gasket. didn't even get her hot so i can hear if the turbo is even spooling.
damn! how did you put your gasket on the water pump? I do RTV on the pump, set gasket on, then RTV on the gasket, and then put the pump on the engine. tighten down to 14ftlb's. i kept going around the bolts until my torque wrench beeped without the bolt moving at all.
Well the one i ordered was the fel pro one. which is pretty much the gasket supplier that ford uses i think.
It was a paper one with some like rubber material scattered about, seemed stupid not to just put a consistent bead all the way around it or better yet ar ubber gasket.
But i put rtv on the water pump then stuck the gasket to it.
Guess i just shifted it out of place when i dropped it down in there.
Really a bummer.. but i ordered a victor reinz one for this next try.
We'll be a little more careful.
14 ft. lb's is just a little ol snug up it seems like.
Might break my cheapo out even if it aint really 14 lbs atleast it will be too much or too little all the way around haha.
ugh
Another thing guys.
Water pump was leaking but i still started the truck just to see if i could hear the turbo only ran it for about 5 minutes tops.
But i didn't hear anything, and all i'm running is straight from the downpipe.
Being that i only ran it for 5 minutes, doesn't the turbo need to get pretty hot or something to spool?
Just wondering why i cna't hear anything
need to have a load on the engine to get spool. even revving it in park will not do anything. need to take it for a drive to get any boost and/or any sound from it.
with just a DP and the fuel screw turned up a flat or two,she should whistle real loud right off idle.least my banks did.i had to run her like that for a few days while my intermediate pipe i ordered came.was such a loud whistle it drove me nuts after a day or two.it was cool for a few test runs, then lost all appeal.i don't care to ever hear my turbo again after that.i got my fill lmao.
turn up your fuel a bit and go for a drive.you'll hear it.
if no go,pull it apart and wrap every pipe you can with two layers of wrap.she'll whistle.
My 94 factory doesn't ever whistle. I get boost and decent power, but no whistle. I know Eric didn't get much whistle from his either, even after his 3" DP mod and 60 to 1 wheel. Could just be the turbo.
Ford,
I finally got my 93 to CO, I have been driving it quite a bit. The Sidewinder whistles like a songbird! Even at idle you can clearly hear it, and on hard acceleration it is obvious! It is stock, with the Banks 3.5" exhaust with muffler, but the whistle is still clear as day. The guy I bought my 94 from followed me in his (my) truck to my house, and said he could hear it from behind me! I like that!
My turbo is pretty loud once i get around 10psi and is even better around 15. of course the turbo gets drowned out by the engine turning 3400rpm so.....after this new IP i should be able to hit those boost numbers MUCH easier, therefore the whistle should be more noticeable b/c the rpm's will be lower. getting on the e-way, the compressor whistle sounds like it is going to suck me out the window and into the turbo!!!
Mac, i do agree that the factory 093 is not a whistler. seems like the ats version might be better.
i dunno what it is about the banks then.whistle like mad.i don't hear mine at all anymore with my dynomax ultra flo welded muffler.it always did deepen the engine tone drastically.i guess that deepness from it drowns out all whistle.which is a ok by me.i don't miss that myself.that was a bit much. at least right under foot anyway.out back might not be so irritating lol.
congrats on getting your '93 home!
I forgot how good she runs, and SO much more comfortable to drive! Snowing again here in Denver today though so the 94 will be back in action tomorrow!
My turbo has a decent whistle at idle, but my trucks so long you don't hear it good in the cab unless you roll the back window down. If you pass a building thats close, you can really hear it at about 1500 rpms. Guess she's just too long!lol
I have my wastegate turned in and pushing 80 ccs of fuel though.
