My next project with my truck is going to be installing OEM or OEM style fog lights for my 2000 SD PSD 7.3l cc LB that was not installed from factory. Anyone have a write up on what I will need as far as wiring harness, how to hook the lights up to the factory switch or any useful information? Thanks you
If you buy a complete kit it has almost everything you need. However the set I bought had a on/off switch, but it had everything else to wire them in. So i didn't hook them up to my headlight switch. If you hook it up to the factory switch so it comes on with your head lights it has to be driving lights not fog lights. When I did mine I installed both fog and driving lights. The fog ones are much brighter, so they are not safe to use durning normal nighttime driving.
I tried to do the same thing wiring it into my exiating switch, and since I went HID's on the fogs it messed with my radio. All you need is the fogs, bulbs (I used 9005 HID), autoparts store help plug in, wire, and some sort of switch.
Since I went HID I ran the wires to a power source, not the headlights, then the switch. Got a radio shack switch that kind of matched the interior and mounted not to look out of place. I did add a an inline fuse, but thats mainly safety precaution and dont know if it was really needed.
I also heard something about anymake superduty earlier then 01 has to have a bracket in order to mount up? is this true? jimbo how did mounting the fog lights go if im assuming you mounted them in the spot ford mounts them out of the factory?
I have mounted my lights on the brush guard that was on my truck. I got the lightset from the 4x4 shop in Silverdale. I can't remember the name of the store, but its right behind the Harley dealership. I paid around $75 per kit. That had the wire harnes, two 4in lights, and on/off switch. The wire kit that came with my lights hooks to the battery, and has a relay that goes to the on/off switch, and you hook that to an ignition wire. This way your lights won't work without the truck on, but they draw the load straight from the battery. I know they have a big selection of different lights sizes, and mounting setup. Hope that helps.
