Fog lights
I have had to dog this project off for about of week because of work, but I have this weekend off and would like to finish.
Let me give some history-My truck did not come with fog lights so I bought some OEM fog lights from ebay. I thought everything was included but I believe I am missing some pieces.
Does anyone have a complete parts list of all the pieces that come with factory fog lights? I have the fog lights, the mounting brackets and a pigtail that plugs into each light and then spilts off and has a female plug on the end that plugs to something.
I need a part # for every piece that will complete the job so I can compare to the part #'s that I have and order the ones I need.
If this makes a difference, my lights have the automatic feature.
The last post that I started I did get some good info from a various people but with the pieces that I have/do not have it was "greek" to me. I think with a complete list I wil be able to narrow down what I need and then will be able to complete this.
Thanks alot
When I installed the factory lamps in my 05 Ex, I used the Ford kit that had everything I needed, except that the brackets on the lamps themselves are different. By law, they should go off with the hi-beams.
You will need to tap into the parking light circuit behind the headlight switch to trip the relay that turns on the foglights. As you can see in my gallery, I mounted a switch in the dash.
No matter how you wire them up...use 9005 bulbs in them...BIG difference.

Have a bright Labor day weekend folks . . .
I would certainly recommend a headlight wiring upgrade kit, but not the BriteBox mod for 2005. This is Black Cloud Diesel's read on it...
9008 Pigtail Headlight Wiring Harness Upgrade
with H13 sockets
Easy to install, this wiring harness will supply battery voltage or more to your headlights. This extra voltage will give you brighter, whiter headlights.
Simple plug and play installation using factory style connectors.
These are equipped with 2 heavy duty relays and a fusible link for safety!
Will NOT work with Daytime Running Lights!
Not compatible with Hi/Low beam simultaneous option due to excessive heat build-up in headlight housing.
This Harness will fit the following applications with 9008 Bulbs,
2005 Dodge Durango
2004-2005 Ford F150
2004-2005 Ford Freestar
2005+ Ford Escape
2005+ Ford Excursion
2005+ Ford F250/350
I would certainly recommend a headlight wiring upgrade kit, but not the BriteBox mod for 2005. This is Black Cloud Diesel's read on it...

Putting the BriteBox in tonight so we'll see if they fire up and work.

Got me . . .
In my 06 250 XLT, the replacement switch with fog light just plugged into the old harness in the dash and everything worked fine.

Let us know how the BriteBox works for you. Did you go with the Fog Light Control? I used the BriteBox on my last truck and really liked it. I forgot about it when I traded it in on my X, oops.
I have four huge (two dual filament) lights on the front so I won't be worrying about a BriteBox mod, but I will get the improved headlight wiring harness. I've used them in the past and really like the additional protection. I've also had a Ford headlight switch go out at night on a very dark forest road, reducing the load through the switch is a good idea.
I have a 01 F250 that is factory equiped with composite headlights and fog lights. I purchased the truck new and I have to say that the only thing that really bothered me about the truck was the quality of the lighting. Installing silverstars did make the road ahead a little brighter but it can only be so good with such a poorly designed lens and reflector combination. I don't like the fact that the lack of low beam light (or perhaps light concentration) necessitates the use of the fog lights because they themselves are an aggravation to oncoming drivers. Not looking to step on any toes here, to each their own but 9005 bulbs may be dangerous to oncoming traffic. I don't know how good newer Ford fog lights are but those in my 01 are as well designed as the headlights. A quality aftermarket fog light (such as Hella, Cibie, Bosch or if you can still get them SEV Marchal) provides brilliant light with a sharp cutoff to eliminate (or greatly reduce) upward scatter and are to be mounted lower than the headlights. Mine seem to provide more of the same poorly concentrated light just closer to the truck. It is beyond me how they could make the lights perform as poorly as they do AND make them irritating to other drivers. Are the lights better on the 05 and 06's?? Are sealed beams still available??
I do understand the benefits of the brite box set up, running low, high and fog is much, much better but I invite y'all to go to hella.com and look at the on line catalog. I installed the Micro FF with a driving lens. It comes with a 55w H3 but I bumped up to 100w. Kit contains everything you need to install and if your crafty will fit in top slot of grill or where the fogs live. For $100usd (or so) plus $10 a piece for the 100w bulbs you won't believe how much light these little guys put out. Mine are switched with the high beam.
Also on this site you will find a 80/100w 9007 replacement for stock composite lights (so you can really light up the trees above your hood) as well as european conversion bulbs for those with sealed beam headlights. Use the (ece off road, page 20) ones that take the H4 bulbs (legal in canada not in US but my H4 and H1 lights always passed inspection) as these are the real deal with four bulb choices 55/60, 55/100, 80/100 and 100/130. If you use larger than standard wattages, check voltages at headlight upon installation add relays as necessary. Had a bmw once with 80/100w in the lo/hi and 100w in the hi (four headlamp setup) that was amazing and comforting to drive at night. Both beams were relayed to feed from battery.
Watts divided by volts equals amps so check your fuse box too.
good luck to all, cut and paste or click below for those interested
