I posted a week or so back about if I don't crank the truck right after the glowplug light goes off I have to turn the key off and back on or its hard to start and has heavy fuel smell along with a good puff of black smoke. Truck is running awesome, no powerloss but I have noticed the rear quarter panel and bumper is getting sooted up but not bad bad. I passed a coworker going home and he said it put out a puff when I got on it. I did an egr stealth delete recently but valve is still plugged in. I didn't notice any of these issues before this. All readings are good, ficm 48.5-50 at all times, even cranking, fuel pressure 65 psi +/-. Just seems like exhaust is more fully smelling. Haven't had any noticable fuel economy issues either. I did a contribution test with AE going home the other day and cylinders all looked good. Any suggestions? Thanks.
not too sure wat a "stealth" egr delete is, but did u change ur up-pipe or did u weld the up-pipe with a block-off plate? preferably one of them stainless steel one piece up-pipe.
Fuel filters have about 7k on them and my stealth egr delete is I pressed a homemade plug into my uppipe and removed the scoop and I welded stainless plugs into both ends of my egr cooler. Like I said the truck is running great, no hesitation at all but I have a strong fuel smell inside and out and the cranking issue that I mentioned. Truck will crank right up unless I let it set with the key on for several seconds so Im wondering if its overfueling at startup hence the smoke at startup. Im not sure but I think if I had a sticking injector it would have a miss or run rough. I may have to do the bubble test again but last time I did it it was fine. Dont know why it is hard cranking if I let it set key on but does just fine if I start it normal.
I once had to change my fuel filters after only 5k cos I took on a bad batch of fuel. I use motorcrafts and they are not cheap.
Hard cranking could be a bunch of things, like bad alternator, bad battery or batteries, bad starter, etc. sometimes even a dirty post on a battery would affect startup. Strange but I am witness to tat.
Not trying to get u worked up. Just trying to cover all bases.
Heres the rundown on the cranking issue. Turn the key to on, wait on glowplug light to go off, cranks fine...if I dont crank it right then it just turns over and over like a gasser would act if it was flooded, also during this no start its belching blue/black smoke out the tailpipe likes its pushing excess fuel. I can turn key to off, then back to on and wait for the light and its fine. Any waiting, id say after about 5 - 10 seconds and then try to crank it, it just wont. What I have been using as a guide is my fuel pressure guage, it sweeps when the key is turned on then it goes up to 65ish psi, thats when I start it, by that time the glowplug light has usually gone off. You know our glowplug light dont stay lit long here in Texas. So its not that it wont crank, its that it just wont if you wait to crank it. Im not in the habit of just sitting there with the key in the on position but if I do thats the only time it hesitates or wont start, otherwise 1-2 seconds and its running. Odd issue.
Strange. Based on ford, the timeout should be about 2 minutes for leaving it in KOEO. Blue smoke might be oil mixing with the fuel and they're getting burnt together. I can leave my key in KOEO for 2 minutes or longer, and she'll still fire up in 2 or 3 quick cranks.
Forget I said blue in the smoke, its black. Im a tad color blind so when the smoke thins out it looks bluish to me but I was assured its black. I never noticed the issue until the EGR cooler delete (which had ruptured).
