Im just wondering if my transmission is operating and shifting like it should, it is so different from the 4R100 in my old truck. I just changed the fluid and external filter also, and it was not burnt and still red/pink when i drained the old stuff. Also i am tuned so keep that in mind, ive never driven my truck in stock tune, perhaps i should
When it goes to shift, there is a split second hesiation before the rpms drop and the truck continues on gaining speed. Theres also a slight thump/clunk when this happens. Are these just characteristics of a firm shift in this transmission? In my old 5.4, when the shifts were firm, it was just a bang when it shifted.
the only tunes ran before were the canned SCT street tune. it only has 117k miles on it.
im not sure if thump/clunk is the right word...its just a split second noise and it just feels like the gears engaging i guess. im meeting up with some friends for dinner tonight and one of them with a tuned 6.0 is going to go for a ride with me to see what he thinks. i havent been in a tuned 6.0 for a while so im not sure what a firm shift is supposed to be like
but everyone has been telling me its just a firm shift
What the trans learns is how long it takes from when the computer commands the shift until it reads from the speed sensors that the shift has completed. Driving style has nothing to do with it.
Mine shifts through the first gears so smoothly that I have to look at the tach to tell when it happens. I can tell the three-four five shifts though. But I drive like a little old lady...
Mines the opposite. 1-2 and 2-3 are the hard ones, the rest you can't even feel. I'm worried now because I just went to pass someone and it surged bad trying to shift.
If these symptoms are experienced after the batteries have been disconnected, then it is due to the transmission adaptive strategy being cleared from the computer.
This may occur when the vehicle is delivered new from the factory as well.
1. Warm the engine and transmission to operating temperature with all accessories off.
2. Idle engine for one minute with engine warm and all accessories off.
3. Idle engine for one minute with A/C on.
Then:
1) While stopped, perform three sets of gear engagements (N-R, N-D, D-R, R-D) with the brake pedal firmly depressed and waiting three seconds between each engagement.
2) While driving, perform three series of upshifts at light, medium and heavy throttle.
Well my friend just rode with me and he thought it shifted great. He said the 1-2 and 2-3 seemed a little excessively firm sometimes, but it really differs based on throttle position. Some shifts are like previously posted, you cant even feel them and then others you can definitely feel a jolt in the truck. shifts smooth WOT. and then my other friend said, why are you worrying about it, still drives right? its not a dodge
it only did it once in a different tune a few weeks ago, so i was hoping it was just a fluke, but now it pretty much surges/slips going from 3-5 when i get into it every time
