Fuel smell

Help! I have a '96 F-150 w/ the 300-6cyl. recently, I've noticed a fuel/exhaust smell at start-up, and sometimes stopping at a light, checked all the hoses and fuel lines, everything seems secure, no leaks, could my Evap. Exhaust canister be glogged?
Driving me nuts!

Is there any black smoke coming out of the tailpipe? Dead indicator of an over-rich situation. How's she idle? Has your mileage deteriorated? Have you pulled any codes?
Advise.

fuel smell

no black smoke, milege is fine, just changed the fuel filter today, I don't have any "Check Engine" type lights, so I haven't pulled any codes. That's all the info I can give
