2002 Running poorly, Engine light on
A week ago after about 15 minutes into a trip to town, the engine light came on and the truck started running rough, no power. Pressing the pedal, no power. Vibration.
OBDII reader - no codes, doesn't even say MIL is on
Problem does not occur when truck has sat overnight and cooled off but after it warms up, ie, about 15 minutes this happens
Is my turbo on the way out. How do I verify?
Why isn't the OBDII reader getting any codes and not even indicating the MIL is on when it is? Does it take a special OBDII reader to get codes?
Is the turbo serviceable or does it need replaced?
I put the K&N cone filter on last year and wondering if this has anything to do with failure if it is the turbo.
Sorry for so many questions but search engine for this site getting error.
Thanks for any input !
* Factory, no mods
* Idles rough
* Trying to accelerate, very poor acceleration
I did notice with last fuel filter change dark stuff on the filter, thinking it was algae so I have treated it with algacide a few times. Maybe that worked and the fuel filter is clogged?
Are there any tests to confirm if the fuel filter is clogged or should I just change that and see what happens?
You do need a special scan tool to pull the codes from these engines as they are not OBDII compliant.
Initially I thought a possible UVCH(Under Valve Cover Wiring Harness), codes will help point to this.
There is some more thought though with your latest post regarding your fuel filter, and possible algae issue...You can test fuel pressure at the bowl or at the drain with a line hooked up and the drain opened to see where you are at and if there is a possibility that the intank mixing screens may be clogged as well causes a low FP issue.
