My F250 diesal check engine light came on. When it is on, I have no power. I have changed out both the fuel filter and air filter. The light them became intermittent for a short bit then shut off. I was able to take my truck for a short quick drive. Next day, emediately, the light was back on upon starting.
I am both stranded and broke without a clue as to what to do next.

As you already found out that won't fix what's wrong with this.

The cheapest way to fix this is to find someone that can read the codes. The auto parts stores that read codes free usually cannot read ANYTHING on one of these trucks. You might get lucky and find someone on this forum that lives near you (where are you located?) and has the tool to read the codes. Otherwise you'll need to get it to a good independent shop or a Ford dealer to read the codes.
Without the codes all we can do is list EVERYTHING on your truck, and you buy and replace each of them until it's fixed. Without the codes nobody knows what's wrong.
