Deleting AIH???

When done, does this cause a code to be thrown and if so is there a way around it?

Just a stored code, no CEL. And you can get around it with a 470 ohm 1W resistor. I have yet to do that though, and I deleted mine years ago. It's not that big of deal.

Where and how is the resistor placed inline?

I deleted mine for the boost gauge. I have never got a code. I left everything there, just removed the wires giong to the AIH. Everything else is still connected.

You put the resistor on the output of the AIH to ground. It's the one with the blue wire attached. I spliced some resistors into the ground wire that is disconnected during AIH delete and connected it to the output of the aih. Below is a pic of the setup I used. It's the same as a 470 2 watt resistor. I got them at radio shack. I used some heat shrink over the resistor/wire.

I think on most trucks it only sets a soft code and no CEL. Did you scan it after?

If you remove the relay completely then you will not pass a buzz test and depending on the truck, a cylinder contribution test on AE.

Wouldn't a 12 volt light bulb do the same thing?

No performance gain. Sorry! It's just for those of us who are sticklers for having codes that pop up.

I've never had that problem. Relay came out same day as AIH - a little over 200k miles ago. No resistor either. Yes, I get a 'soft code' (stored in PCM), but no CEL. I can't think of any reason this would affect injectors, IDM, etc?????????????

I actually mutilated my AIH by removing the part that stuck into the plenum... I finally decided to get a plug for it last weekend. Its just a Cummins oil pan drain plug, but the Riffraff piece is prettier and already tapped for boost, etc!

The AIH allegedly occupies about 20% of the space its poking into. So, some restriction seems logical. AIH is very, very rarely activated and likely wouldn't be missed if it was called for and not there - this is my many of us have chosen to 'delete' it.

My thinking is, I don't think it is a restriction for air. On a gas engine, air is being sucked into the engine, but with our turbo engines, the air is forced into the engine. I can see where the AIH would be a restriction with a gas engine. The MAP/boost line is after the AIH and my boost is close to 40 psi.

Well put Rick. There are waaaay too many 'common mods' that have no measurable benefit whatsoever. We just can't seem to help ourselves - especially if somebody sez its a good idea and 'everybody else does it'.

AIH delete is a perfect example. Even though nobody has ever documented a dyno gain from this mod, it was one of the first things I did to my truck. Why? IT WAS FREE!! I felt better 'cause it seemed like a good idea and there was certainly no noticeable NEGATIVE effect, soooo why not??

Zoodad is another example - unfortunately, it DOES have a very negative effect. The air filter gets dirtier MUCH faster than without it. Again, nobody can document there is a benefit from this mod but many of us did it as a first mod - because it is FREE (and it sounds like a good idea).

Oh, FWIW my Excursion is ALL stock, except for AIS and chip (and BTS trans!!) and it makes almost 30psi - with a stock muffler!

There are others I try to refrain from mentioning, because my flame suit got burned up a loooong time ago. The more time, effort and money people spend on a 'mod' - the more feverishly they defend it!

I agree Jason. Heck, I never did and will not do the CCV mod. Didn't we put your CCV back to stock when you came here? I think having the CCV going into the cylinders makes my truck faster.
