6637 vs. Air Raid Intake?

I currently have an Air Raid intake on my rig which the original owner installed, I have been toying with the idea of changing over to a 6637, which seems to be the equivalent of the FTE membership tatoo.....

I assume the 6637 sounds better than my current intake (which isn't that noticable) but is there any other benefit other than sound?

Anyone know if the 6637 will direct fit to the existing Air Raid pipe? I don't have anything from the stock housing etc. that I know of.....

I have never dealt with airaid before but if it has a 4" inlet then you would be able to use the 6637 intake with a small piece 4"x4" exhaust pipe and it might fit right in there. you may or may not need to get new clamps depending on the size of the inlet.
the 6637 might also filter better than the airaid.

Personally I wouldn't mess with your setup. The 6637 is loud, and in my opinion not loud in a good way. I would much rather have a full intake system than the 6637.

I would stick with your airaid. I too almost switched, made a thread on here and decided I had a good setup that wasn't cheap.

Here you go-

Thanks guys. If there is no real gain other than "loud" I'm good with what I have. It isn't like I'm starving for power right now, it breaths well from both ends and is ready for a tuner if I ever need more power.

Then again, how fast does the horse trailer have to go

If you go through threads on the 6637 you will be hard pressed to find anyone who has any hard data or seat of the pants data to show that the 6637 is in any way better than any other aftermarket filter, and some people question whether or not its better than the stock filter. The primary reason the 6637 is recommended is because it yields a high dollar per mile return. It is not very expensive to convert to the 6637 and the filter generally lasts a long time (up to a year).

Recently I switched from my 6637 to the AIS. I had the 6637 for 2 years (3 separate filters) and my peak boost was 27psi. With the AIS I have seen 34psi and it is of course MUCH quieter.

My opinion is, the 6637 is a good "no frills" filter that gets the job done and is easy to install and replace (many stores carry it). However, for 'better' filters you should look at aftermarket productions, such as the filter you already have.

That makes 1000% sense to me, along with the other advice as well.

Sticking with the Air Raid.....I have no complaints, I also had nothing to compare it to.

I swapped my AIS for 6637 because it was cheap and easy in order to experience what 6637 was like. Noticed no peak boost difference vs. AIS and it is loud like people say. Before the next long road trip or when the filter gets dirty I'll be putting the AIS back in with a fresh filter.

Not having the snorkel tube does allow better access to the stuff around and underneath.

Yup... and with the ccv adapter gone... 1 8mm clamp and the whole intake comes out.

My experience, had stock 7.3, and airaid was fine. Changed to bigger turbo and sticks, then air minder would register half way, after a wide open run. Went to a 6637, and it doesn't move the indicator at all. In my case the 6637 was a vast improvement in air flow, and cost.
That being said, I can't knock your set-up, cause Airaid makes several different models, and what you have may or may not be fine for you.
