K&N Air Intake vs. Airaid Air Intake...

I was curious what people think between the K&N Air Intake vs. Airaid Air Intake and OEM intake? Which one is the best? Also does anyone know the real HP and MPG increase it actually gets? I don't sometimes believe what the manufacutor says.... Will it give me a throater sound?

Thanks,

The aftermarket may give the truck a "better sound" but as far as performance goes, you will not see any gain. The stock intakes on these things are extremely well versed, between the amount of airflow and the filtration provided. K&N will not filter as well, but will claim major gains that really won't be there unless your engine is suffocating, which I highly doubt. You should be good sticking with the stock air box truthfully, but check out the 6637 mod. Just do a search on it.

OEM will filter better, filter longer and flow more air for the long haul than any other A/M stuff.

I have to agree with these boys! I think theres alot of hipe about these "Cold Air Intake" systems. My truck never ran any faster on a cold day or a hot day. If it did I never noticed!
Secondly, the oiled filter has been around for along time. Who wants wash a filter, wait for it to dry, then add oil! Thats like old school, way old school!

The stock intake is actually not that bad. I would look into the 6637 mod as well as possibly a Zoodad. I know on my V10, all I have to do is take make a hole with a dremel and I will have an intake that is just as good as any on the aftermarket.

I can second that as well. The stock intake is plenty good. Now there are some paper filters you should avoid. Motorcraft makes about the best, and the top names in filters like WIX and Purolator are great choices. Avoid Fram, STP, and Bosch, as well as store and value brands. Napa has some great stuff however, an exception to the store rule.

If you want a reusable filter to save money down the road, AFE makes some washable dry filters that have near OE filtering levels, and they can be washed with ordinary water, and you can get them as drop in filters. I use one on my van and love it. I didn't get it for performance gains, but I like that I can wash it and put it back in. there is no special cleaning kit, you just rinse with water, then shake the water out. I don't even let it completely dry, I just shake the loose water off then put it back in.

Meh. "Extra filtering capacity" is about the biggest line of horse**** I've heard in a while. I like that he was specifically unwilling to dyno it, as I'm sure he knew as well as we do that any increase or decrease in rated power will be well within the expected fluctuations of normal dyno runs.

For this vehicle in this application, it's pure snake oil.

Guys, 6637 mod is for 7.3 only. OP has a 6.0.

FWIW, I have the Airraid intake on mine, it was the 1st mod I did. Probably could have saved the money, but didn't know any better then. OTOH, I like the intake - looks good, sounds good, easy to take out and clean. Also, some guys say that these type of intakes let dust through that can destroy your turbo or that the oil can dirty your MAF sensor. I've had mine on for about 25k miles, had it off a couple times for cleaning and the inside of the intake tube is as clean as the day I installed it. The 1st couple times i was worried because of what others were saying, so I wiped a clean, lint-free cloth inside the tube and it was spotless. No dust, no oil, nothing! Just be sure not to over-oil it after cleaning.

Intake system with bully dog PMT

ok guys...I know a lot of you guys are saying that the stock air box is perfectly fine for the 6.0L. But I have a Bully Dog PMT on my truck and after talkin to a buddy of mine, he brought up a good point. The stock air box is plenty good for a stock 6.0L, but could my truck be sufficating due to the changes in programming from the PMT with the stock airbox? Im trying to avoid spending 300-400 bucks just to find out if im right or wrong. so what do you all think?

Its not Snake Oil its about a bigger filter! More filter area more flow and dirt capacity.
