6637 Installation

So I'm not too sure as far as protection with my current Airaid intake put on by the previous owner and was considereing a 6637 since these appear to be like the K&N type setups that could let in too much dust.

I currentely have an Airaid intake setup like below and was wondering if a 6637 would just bolt right up? It appears the 6637 has a 4" end like my Airaid. Does anyone have experience and or opinions on doing this?
Also, if I did, would I want to leave the box in place? I notice all the other 6637 set-ups I've seen just sit out in the open. Maybe remove the sides or drill some large holes in the sides of my current box? Thanks for any input or Ideas.

i think whats installed in there now, is rock'n. The K/N filters that allow dust in, are the elements that drop into the factory airbox assy. What you got breath'n, i'd continue to use.

Agreed. What you have there is fine. I am running that exact same setup in my F450.

I doubt a 6637 filter will fit in that space anyway...

My other trucks run the drop in K&N style in the OEM airbox. I have to be mindful of how I put on the lid...there is a right way and wrong way to do it.
If you use the wrong way, there will be large gaps that will let air in. Actually happens with the Motorcraft paper filter as well, (just not as large of a gap...)

Yeah, you're good. I wouldn't change a thing intake-wise.

Great, thanks guys. I assumed these were like the K&N's and have been concerned. Looks like I'm leaning towards standing pat.

If you went with the 6637 you would have to remove that box around your current filter. The 6637 is huge. I removed the air box and just layed the 6637 there and it still gets the corner crushed a little bit from the hood. I love my 6637, it lets in tons of air but even better is it filters the air amazingly well. I live on dusty (limestone) gravel roads and I change air filters in other vehicles about every 3 months but not on this truck.

Now having said that I don't know much about the AFE filter but if everyone else says its OK I would stick with it. If you just have the urge to spend money on your intake you may want to look at getting a filter cover for your element. Clay at RiffRaff should be able to help you with the cover.

What you have there is probly quieter than the 6637 (open) filter would be also -
