if its a show truck you could add some flash by chroming the compressor. pros are less weight and maybe a couple hp, cons are having to take it all out and the time it takes to do that. you could make a dummy pulley or take it off completely but you may need the non ac serp belt then

It only affects YOUR comfort driving the truck. You either want it or you don't.

Plenty of very fast street vehicles WITH air conditioning.

None at all. The pully is free wheeling on a bearing when the clutch is not applied.

I know a fellow with a 800 hp supercharged 598 ci Chevy with a/c in a 72 monte carlo. He wants comfort when he cruises.

Nothing like showing up to a car show with a truck that smells like a locker room in the cab because you sweated to death on your way. Deleting the A/C will neaten things up under the hood, but you won't save any significant time racing if you leave it turned off on a run. I say fix it--it is part of the defroster system, and helps tremendously when it comes to clearing the windows on a cool, rainy day. As long as your compressor is working, you should be able to have it fixed for under $400--chump change compared to a "high HP build".
