removing the a/c compressor

has anyone tryed to remove their a/c compressor from their 5.0 yet? if so what size belt works? i dont use it and it should make a little more power without it i think

Because of the way the belt is routed, you'll have to put in an idler pulley and use the same size belt. not sure how much power you can expect from this. when the AC isn't running its basically an idler pulley anyway. idler pulley may have a little less drag, but not much.

I agree. When the clutch is not engaged on the compressor it is just like and idler pulley so it really defeats the purpose.

Idler pulleys put more load on the engine than an AC clutch that's not engaged.

Why?

AC Delete idler pulleys use cheap, crappy bearings that allow dirt in, whereas the AC clutch bearing is a precision bearing.

Of course we're talking about a .000001 HP difference in draw.
