Mine was ok but I replaced it anyway. Some people have left it out. I like it just incase a big chunk of something gets in the tank it won't get sucked up.

I have never heard of an issue with the line, and it is emersed in fuel, so doesn't really "hang" unsupported.
The foot, chances are yours is broken already, a lot are. Mine was, and because I didn't have time to order a new one I simply fashioned a screen "sock" to keep chunks out of the pick up line. But it could probably be left off. But if I were to do over I would put it back on. It is not that fine, and it would take a lot to stop it up.

I'm kinda new on here, but how does the hutch mod compare to a sump kit. Just wondered wich is better. and do you need to do it if your putting on an air dog type system?

The sump kit pulls from the bottom of the tank, which will pull all the crud from the bottom of the tank into your fuel system. You still need a pre-pump filter. If you don't re-route the return fuel line, you still get air in the fuel system, which is the main reason to do either mod. If you are doing the sump to get the last ounce of fuel out, you risk other engine damage as well.

An air dog does about the same air removal as a hutch mod, but doesn't replace the in-tank screens. You may still have issues with the in-tank screens. The air dog type system is much more expensive as well.

As long as you know the risks, the choice is yours. My choice was the hutch / harpoon mod (twice: once on each of two trucks).

Yep. The sump gets rid of the "straw" effect, no more sucking the fuel up and out, but for the most part that gets fixed pretty cheaply with the h&h. And, water and debris hangs out at the bottom.
The Air Dog stuff is great if you are really high horsepower racer type, but IMHO unesessary for most of us.
