Fuel line/tank mod update

I ordered from ITP Diesel the tank/fuel line mod kit and the order was cancelled by them afew days later.. they are updating the kit to include a fuel filter with water separator and said to check their website in about 4 weeks... for those of you thinking about wanting a "kit" to do the mod. They still have not set a price yet.

I understand the concept of "upgrading" their kit to include a high-priced pre-pump filter to increase their profits, but what about the guy who already has a water-separating pre-pump filter?

Fooey! When I get around to doing the Hutch mod, I'll build my own! Likely, I already have everything I need out in the garage. It's much cheaper to just do it yourself, anyhow.

Some folks shoot themselves in the foot in their attempt to line their pockets.

I went to NAPA and bought the parts needed. Too easy to make your own kit.

Diesel Innovations also sells a kit, here at the bottom of the page:
http://www.dieselinnovations.com/di....products&cat=2

Although, I went with the ITP kit. The DI kit doesn't appear to have a tube that runs the return fuel away from the fuel pickup, where as the ITP kit does.

You might give them a call and see if they can send you the old kit. Dennis is a pretty easy guy to work with. Or, you can do like mentioned and make your own. I don't have a tubing bender to make the return line extenstion, so I didn't do it. I was also limited on time, so a pre-fabed kit made more sense for me. One note if you do it yourself, I was warned not to use steel brake lines because many of them have a galvanized coating on them that can flake off. A stainless steel line is what you want.

After thinking about the dynamics of foamy fuel returning to an already shoshing tank, I decided that simply cutting the U-shaped rubber line half-way through would be more than sufficient. This is per Diesel Power Products' instructions http://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/tank_mod_ . However, that's the only part of their mod that I'll be using.

Hutch had a good idea when he designed that long extension into his return, but my personal opinion is that it's only over-kill (not that overkill is hardly-ever a BAD thing, mind you).

I did it the Hutch way with a big long tube and complete elimination of the mixing chamber. Kept the pickup screen and reinstalled it over the end of the new tube. Ran the tube down far enough to cover the hole in the side.

Except for the long return tube, that's the same way I'll be doing mine, Kwik, eliminating the mixing chamber completely and using the original pickup with a longer pickup tube.

When I get a "Round Tuit".

The older I get, they seem to get harder and harder to find.
