New Problem

Recently my truck started acting strange. Sometimes, it will have a rough idle (like it has a big cam), like a lope. Sometimes it is bad enough that it will die. Sometimes when it is doing this, it will die when you try to move the truck. You can feel this while driving. Sometimes the CEL will come on. When the CEL comes on, the truck smoothes out. It doesn't do it all the time. Seems to do it more with higher temps. Doesn't necessarily have to be when the truck is started, it has developed this issue while driving down the road.

I have changed the oil ensured it was full, changed the fuel filter, changed the CPS last year ( ford part). Also noticed that it seems to be using oil more than in the past.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

If the truck smooths out when the CEL comes on I would look at the ICP sensor. If the PCM detects it can't control ICP pressure as desired it will ignore the ICP sensor, turn the CEL on and try to run with pre programmed parameters .. i.e., makes a guess.

If all of the above fails, try the IPR O rings.

I'm not too sure about the ICP but then again when the PCM defaults to its prdetermined vales of its table settings, the engine will sometimes act as if its getting too much fuel between shifts causing a lope but I'd firstly check the harnesses and underneath for loose connections. while you're underneath, pull em apart and spray them down w/ contact cleaner, blow them out and secure them.

Check the tin nut on the IPR. If it is loose the truck will run rough.

Thanks guys. After I initially started this post, everything went back to normal. The truck started running smooth again, like nothing ever happened. So, I thought I just got ahold of some bad fuel. Everything was good until last night. I had just bragged about how my truck hasn't had any major problems in the 10 years that I've had it. Then it happened again.

The truck just started idling extremely rough, like it had a big cam. It would lope almost to the point of dying. After a little while, everything smoothed out for a few minutes. While driving I could feel it develop a slight stutter about 45 seconds prior to a big jerk. Can't find any other way to describe that part. It did this twice in about 5 minutes. I shut it down for the night and this morning, all was normal again.

Guess now ill start checking the items listed above.

Just FYI: I did get fuel yesterday from a place that I haven't gotten fuel from in a month or so.
