First off,I apoligize for a long story...I have a 03 f250 7.3 w/160,000.....truck is completely stock......Promblem started 1 day when truck would not crank, and with the forums help and since their was already a recall,I changed the cps and truck loved it and fired right up,but soon after started running rough...Changed oil,new air and fuel filter and then after reading several other peoples post, figured the ford cps was no good and got 1 from international and truck accepted it and it ran fine for a week...Going down interstate, when I got on it hard [from 55 to about 70 mph ]the cel came on and truck sounded loud like clanking, ticking or diesel loud .... and it would surge in and out going down road,,,changed to another cps;;; a borg warner from orielys parts and again truck ran great for about a week, then back to old ways of running....Now I checked the wire harness on ICP sensor and it had oil in it,so I replaced it and sensor with a NON FORD part...truck again ran great for short time and back to old ways a few days later...Finally had truck hooked up to AE and mechanic said ICP readings and exhaust back pressure readings are only things abnormal...I now replaced ICP and wire harness with Ford parts and removed the exhaust sensor and tube and cleaned the tube [ it was not that bad ] but didnt replace sensor.....should I replace the sensor and would the ebps give me these sympthoms or please anyone have some ideas what it could be......truck runs good till it gets warm after about 20 miles, then it starts getting loud and idle rough,,,,and at times I can give it gas and its got no power...thanks so much
Sounds like you've got a fuel pressure problem that is intermittently causing you troubles.
Fuel restrictions can cause the truck to fall on it's face, or clank and knock like there's something wrong with the motor. The fuel won't set the CEL since there's not a sensor for that, but it can trip an ICP code as the PCM tries to figure out why it's not going faster.
If you can scan it cheap or free, finding out what that stored code is might be helpful. Looking into the fuel tank mods might be a good idea for you. Putting a temporary gauge on it and going for some test drives would tell you for sure.
not sure what I need to look for on them ,but to me they look good, maybe a little oil on the base of them..also if I drive distance of say 20 miles at or below 50 to 55 mph,,truck runs decent,,,no loud noise and idles ok,but if I drive same distance at say 70 mph,,the idle is rough and no power,,just today after driving 25 miles and stopped at stop sign, wemt to take off and its if something was holding truck from going as gas is pressed.....just weird why it ran great for a while after replacement of cps and icp at different times
thanks cookie88 and f350-6....so I should hook up a fuel pressure gauge and go from there...also would the ebps be a possibility...and speaking of fuel,,It just jared my memory, but about a month before promblems started,,stopped at fuel station and put diesel nozzle in truck to fuel and when I pull trigger on nozzle,it was like fuel wouldnt go in truck,it spray back on me,then it started taken,,,,omg, cant believe I forgot that,,not sure if it meant anything....cel has not been on since that 1 time............where is the best place on fuel bowl to hook up for gauge///again a big super thasnks so far crew
You can test the pressure at either one of the fuel bowl plugs on the back side of the fuel bowl
There's a good chance you need to do this Welcome to guzzle's In-tank Hutch Mod Web Page and get rid of the 2 cylinder shaped screens in the mixing chamber that are probably plugged up.
