78 f-150 flareside, 400 c-6. was slowing down to turn then all of a sudden brake pedal went right to the floor. I almost pooped myself but thank god i didnt hit anything. Then brake pressure came right back. I pulled over and looked under the truck nothing was leaking, i had full brake fluid, and the pedal felt completely normal. So i drove the rest of the way home really slowly and had no problems
A couple weeks ago i blew the rear line and replaced it along with new fluid, wheel cylinders, spring kit, and self adjusters
When braking under 5mph the brakes are making grinding noises and steering to the right a little bit. This has been happening for about a week.
Im considering replacing the entire brake system, rotors, pads, calipers, drums, shoes, master cylinder just to be safe.. But i've yet to look up how much that costs
its possible one of your front pads lost its friction material...when that happened it left a large clearance between the remaining pad backing and rotor...then a pump or two of the brake pedal (with nearly no resistance) was required to close the gap...just a guess based on your description of the symptoms.
Sounds like the master cylinder AND you need to redo the front brakes. If it's been "grinding" and steering to the right for a week, you'll more than likely need to replace the rotor.
Yeah, time to rebuild the whole brake system. The price on brake parts really isn't too bad when you compare it to newer vehicles.
Replace the front wheel bearings too while you're at it.
Decided to take everything apart and found i am missing the inner drivers side brake pad... Now the brake fluid is visible its sprayed all around the tire. The universals in the front axle are shot so im thinking about just upgrading to a dana 60.
