back pressure question

Pretty much everything I've read says that back-pressure does not effect performance on a diesel, and anything after the turbo is just a restriction. That makes sense in theory, but in practice I've found it not to be true. I recently had to put my catalytic converter on to pass inspection, and noticed a definite increase in low end power. Nothing major, but there is a slight difference in accelerating off the line. What do you guys think about this?

I had a noticeable loss of turbo lag removing the cat and muffler on my truck. So, the opposite effect you're experiencing.

All I did was remove my cat but kept the muffler. (towing a lot with no muffler is loud) I noticed that even with my muffler and no cat I had less turbo lag. Strange your's is opposite?

on my 96 7.3 I had a heated discussion on this. I removed all of my restrictions on a stock motor. While towing at about 10k I damn near had to put it in 4wd lo to get on a highway at an on ramp, it was 15% grade or better from a full stop. It had no *** under load, now empty at wot it would rocket ship. Then the argument started then why do tractor pull trucks have no back pressure. Here is what I could rationalize is that A. they have a stage 1,2,3 everything. Turbo, injectors, big oil, big fuel, intake and that B. tractor pulls don't start with the full load on the vehicle, it has time to wind up. As for the variable g turbo's on the 6.0 I have no experience. I just wanted to point out that I lost low end torque with a full trailer and loaded truck with an unrestricted exhaust. It is my understanding that if you step the exhaust system up you will see the best benefit. start with a set down pipe size then gradually increase the tail pipe diameter, maybe I just read that on the internet.. the internet can't lie.

I like it so much better with the cat that I decided to leave it on. I went to a side exit after the cab to get some of the sound back though, as its much quiter with the cat on.
