Hi I am thinking about changing my 84 300 to duraspark ignition. If I were to buy the parts new what do you recommend and where would you buy them from(motorcraft autozone summit etc). I really don't what high performance but would like to upgrade to new parts. Thanks for your help.
i understand you would prefer all new components...but i do have a ds2 setup to include dizzy, module, plug wires, etc. sitting on the shelf in my garage. they were pulled off of a good running 300 less than a couple months ago. shoot me a PM if interested. i won't be using them as i'm tossing a DUI setup on my built 300 in my 79.

The quickest, easiest, and maybe the cheapest way to get your DSII would most likely be the deal that TheDude offered. Most likely he has a good quality harness included with it which would make it almost plug-n-play. If you decide to go new, you will have to get a harness or make one. Rock Auto sells all the parts including the connectors for your home-made harness for about $150. Best Wishes...jack
The DSII distribs for me are problematic, as I've 2, counted them, 2, that Ate themselves and because of that caused nasty things to happen to my 300c.i.ers push rods, valves & timing.
Cage screws failed on the first & the shaft snapped on the second, & both of the distribs were brand new.
If you're going to do a conversion, go w/ the Mallory system or just go w/ a Pertronix conversion.
I actually went w/ both in a combo conversion of the two.
I'd a Mallory Duell Points Racing Ditrib that I used the Pertronix Kit on & it works perfectly.
If you want the absolute simplest, cheapest electronic ignition consider a duraspark distributor powered by a GM HEI Module as described on gofastforless.com. I built one for my '460 powered '46 pickup and it is working well.

i was holding my tongue on this one, but yes- i couldn't agree more.
there is no need in spending the big bucks for the DUI, or buying/building the harness for the DS2.
drop in the DS2 distributor, sling 3-4 wires, and call it a day.
The GM 4 pin modules are cheap enough to carry a ride along spare. I got theses used from the junk yard.
I have been running this setup for many years. I have collected the needed DS2 harness and parts but see no reason to swap it in as it is working fine as is.

Not to hijack this thread but since you are talking about it I have to ask. I have a 76 with a duraspark 1 ? ignition setup and I recently bought another engine with the durasparkII set up. I even got the module with it. Will this be nothing more than installing the module on the firewall and hooking up the connectors to the existing wiring?
First off I have never worked on a DS1 system, but I think the Dist and the wiring between the Dist and the Module will be fine. The power plug on the module might be different so just be sure the red wire on the IGN Module has power with the key ON.

I don't think that website is correct. That website seems to be talking about some California-only emissions version of Duraspark (with which I am personally unfamiliar) and is calling it Duraspark I.
Duraspark I and II are almost exactly the same, the only difference is what the module does to the primary current when the engine is not turning. Duraspark I shuts the coil OFF when the key is ON but the engine is OFF; Duraspark II keeps it on at all times. One does not use any "hotter" coil than the other and both use a ballast resistor. This is straight out of Chilton's.
I have always been under the impression that modules with a 3-wire power connector (RED, WHITE and BLUE) were Duraspark I modules and modules with a 2-wire power connector (RED and WHITE) were Duraspark II, but I'm not sure if that's really the case.
