Scanner advice; recommendations

I realize there are many scanner threads but none that I have found that answer my specific question:

I own a 96 F250 7.3 and 2003 Excursion 7.3. I am looking for a scanner/software that will give me real time, live feedback on engine functions/performance.

I would prefer to use a setup that will work with my laptop as opposed to a complete self-contained hand held unit.

Now here is where I go off the deep end..........I would like to know if there is any such scanner/software out there for around $500 or less would even be better?

Any suggestions/recommendations or am I completely in La-La land?

I would look into AutoEnginuity Riffraff Diesel: AutoEnginuity Total Ford Enhanced Bundle
I would also look into DP's Infinity i believe you can get it without the tunes and just as a scan tool, I dont know much about either of them so hopefully someone else will join in with a little more detailed information.

Scan Guage II is also a affordable option for live data and code reader. I bought mine for $140

96, eh? Just make sure it has an OBDII port... that's on the cusp.

AE is the 700# gorilla and works on your laptop. Aeroforce Interceptor is a gauge that does many tests and has many fans, but mounts on one truck. Cheapest option is the Torque app for your android phone ($5) plus a bluetooth ELM unit ($20-$100). I break out AE for testing but for simple monitoring Torque is fine. It will read/clear codes, do a hpop health check, and is uber portable.

Thanks to all for the recommendation and positive reinforcements!

It looks like the AE is exactly what I was looking for only substantially below the $500 threshold!

I am ordering it as soon as I post this reply!

Thanks again,
Tom

Right now I am trying to get the 96 to run right after installing new injectors, rebuilt turbo and chip. It runs like a dream once I can get it to keep running but stalls at idle and will not restart after it is hot. I am hoping I can discover the answer with a good scanner!

Thanks for your input!

I saw this problem recently (with a cure) in this forum, but I can't remember what the cure was. I do know that tired oil has been a real bane for many a 7.3L owner.

I'd be much obliged if you could remember where that "cure" was! I have been dealing with this for over a month since I put the new injectors and rebuilt turbo in and haven't been able to make any progress!

Thanks,
Tom

BTW, forgot to mention that the oil only has a couple hundred miles on it.
