No shift lever action
well the kid had to go out and move the truck and all I heard was the horn blasting...so I went outside and he said shifter does not work....so I looked inside and saw the Head of one of those Torqx bolts and a one inch or so spring by his feet.....cannot turn the Van off and restart it...Fabulous ....So I pick up all the tools and lock the house since he cannot remove his foot from the brake...at least it was in Drive and not reverse...Made it home on Rush Hour traffic ( 1.5 hrs) and Parked it in the driveway....At least I saved a $300 Tow bill....I also could not remove the key... Hopefully I can remove the lock as an assembly...Now tomorrow I will take it apart and see what I need to replace.....anybody ever done this before ? I have replaced a screw before which adjusted the cable.....I hope I will not get Raped by my local dealer for the part....Any thoughts / experiences are welcome.......
Wow what Party...I was lucky enough to be able to remove the broken bolt with my fingers after I removed the seat and lowered the steering column all the way ... Went to Ford and paid 2 bucks for the bolts and re -greased the spring inside the shift tube tightend it p and Bingo......I got it back together and the Shift Indicator deal was not working... as in not returning back ........FABULOUS..........I had to take it apart again and remove the dash bezel and Instrument cluster from the Van and then unbolt the Shift indicator assembly , re-connect the TINY spring and re-assemble everything....I took the time to clean all connectors I saw with contact cleaner and then I applied die-elctric grease before I snapped them back together....Then finally I installled the seat and went for a ride...all good ...
Took me 4 hrs the first day and 3 hrs Today.....I windexed and Armouralled everything...Looks Beauty
I didn't have any real advice to give so pretty much stayed away at first. I've replaced a few bushings in my own column, almost swapped a tilt wheel model to replace the straight type so know just a tiny bit about the many screws and dinky parts found in one of these.
Even with torque settings and Loc-Tite products used during OEM assembly some fasteners still work themselves loose. Sometimes as you've discovered removing the upper and lower column shrouds and dash bezel still doesn't give enough access to some parts. Dropping the column is the only way at that point.
Anyway all is well now----beautification too!
