360/390 question
I know the only true way to tell the difference between a 360/390 is to measure the stroke. Well my old engine is not assembled but its really hard to tell where the top of the stroke is just by looking at the cylinder walls. is there any way to tell from the crank if its a 360 or a 390? I was about to take this engine to scrap but I wanted to double check before i through out a good 390. when measuring the cylinder It looks like the stroke is 3.78 which is a 390 butnot 100% and Im just using a tape measure. anyone have some info i would appreciate it.
Thanks Tim

<!-- google_ad_section_start -->If there's a "half moon" cutout on the flywheel flange it's a 360 or a '65 and earlier 390...
No "half moon" cutout on the flywheel flange it's a '66 and later 390

Montana, there is not half moon cut out on the flywheel flange just a ushaped notch cut, and red road thanks for the measurements on the piston rod but measuring with a tape measure its hard to tell. I really think its a 390, which is good. should be eaiser to sell.

A small notch on the flange usually indicates a 390 crank. If the pan is off, look for "2UA" on one of the counterweights. That's definitely a 390.

Sounds like you got yourself a confirmed 390, it should be an easy sell.

1958/64 FE engines were only installed in Passenger Cars. The engine block bolt pattern for the R/L rubber insulators is different than 1965/76 FE engines.
1958/64 FE engines have rounded valve covers without holes for oil caps/smog valve. There's an engine oil fill tube on the right front side, it's made as part of the valley pan.
2U = 390: 1966/71 Passenger Cars & 1968/72 F100/350 (C6AZ-6303-A crankshaft).

Engine swapped, no 4WD came w/a 390.
2U is a 390: 1966/71 Passenger Car/1968/72 F100/350...as I said in the post 7.
