K&N Product Warranties

If you don't know FIRST HAND what you are talking about and are just parroting misinformation you heard. Not trying to be a dick but you are ignorant about this. Air raid filters are much better, but a properly oiled K&N will always outperform an OEM filter.
I do not care what K&N says . I have seen the damage to mass air flow sensors caused by oiled filters first hand . The oil coats the sensors . It throws them off , and can burn up hot wire sensors . I also have read the TSB's from many makers regarding oiled air filters . I took out 15 from a fleet of crown vics ( after another shop installed them ) when mass air flow sensors started failing . ANY contaminate will alter the readings of a mass air sensor,or damage them beyond cleaning . To compound the issue , users over oil them .

Yes, when not serviced correctly this is exactly what happens.

So again, if oiled correctly it's not an issue. That's like saying there is a race tire that gets a bad rap just because a bunch of 16 year olds die racing and flip their cars. If the tires were better "Performing" tires it wouldn't have happened. Blame the user, not the product unless it's just obvious that it's a real issue.

Whether someone maintains an oiled filter correctly or not, which is almost plain luck, many car manufacturers will not honor warranties if they find an oiled filter or evidence of one. Now I know that no Excursion is under the original warranty but if car manufacturers react to them like that...

Its like JWC3 said (and I said earlier), oil will burn up MAFs and leave a nice oily trace all through the intake tract. Its not worth it.

Even properly oiled out of the box they contaminate the MAF, so not completely a user issue.

Read the TSB's . Make an educated decision . Get out and wrench for a living in a high volume shop , then tell me what you think . I have seen too many failures first hand . I don't look at sales pitches for my info . That is why I do not reccomend a oiled air filter .

I work on Blackhawks in the military... I wrench all day. The Apache uses oiled filters for all the "temperature control" air as well

Well if you are a chopper mechanic , thanks for keeping our boys safe in the air . But , I have no experience in that area . So I can not speak on the use of oiled air filters in that app. But I can speak on their use in the automotive world . I know what I see , replace , repair . That is why I do not recommend them . I see what happens to sensors and drive by wire throttle bodies . I do not like to tell someone they need $700 in repairs because of an aftermarket oiled air filter . Reg joe puts one on , mucks up his air flow sensor . Then he cleans it , and soaks down his DBW throttlebody , for good measure . Then his throttle body shorts out and he needs a tow . Nissan is the worst . Might even take out the ecm when the tb driver shorts out ! That $89 filter just turned into $1200 repair . Those are some of the reasons I do not recommend them .

For dusty roads you want the air intake to take in air from the front of the vehicle, NOT under the hood. We have trucks that run primarily on dusty dirt roads yet the filters never get plugged or very dirty even.

lets stick with apples and apples.
Does the Apache use similair air sensors after the filter ?
If not, it won't matter
