Hey guys, This morning I went out and checked the oil in my 1992 F150 4.9L I was looking around after and noticed my lower radiator hose was flat as a pancake in the middle? So I popped the radiator cap off and the hose went back to normal. Started up the truck let it run in my driveway for about 30mins took it out for a drive hose was fine didnt collapse. Came home and 3 hours later I was going out somewhere and figured I'd check it the hose was going flat again So I popped off the radiator cap and It went back to normal again. Anyone have any idea whats going on? Lower rad hose it 3years old, radiator is a year old, and thermostat and water pump are 2 years old Thanks
-Cory
From what I have read lower radiator hoses are supposed to have a spring in them to keep them from collapsing. Mainly from collapsing when the engine is running and the water pump is sucking the coolant through the system to circulate the coolant. I would replace the hose.
Replaced the cap, problem solved thanks again guys
Glad you got it fixed thanks for posting the fix . Lots of guys don't understand how a radiator cap works . They can fail either way . Pressure or suction .
