Radiator Hose

Hey guys,
Ole Red, my 90 F150 SC with 300 I6, needs a new bottom radiator hose and clamps. Bought the stuff yesterday, but noticed as I paid for it that the hose doesn't have the spring inside. Now I know I haven't done this repair for at least 4 years, but don't the better rad. hoses (bottom) have a spring/coil inside to keep the hose from collapsing. Or has Alzheimers clouded my mind? Just need to check before I get started. Thanks.

Not all of them do it depends on the application. and accually know that I think about it I haven't seen one with a spring in them for a long time. maybe with new designs they went away from that compleatly?

Yep, the 300 hose doesnt use a spring..as do most of the later model vehicles. In the old days, the water pump impellers did such a good job they would actually suck faster then the radiator could handle, so a spring was needed. If your radiator cap is good, and the radiator is not partially clogged, you shouldn't experience a hose collapse.
